Residents object to Westbury house plans

Former Defence Minister Willie O’Dea and Councillor Cathal Crowe have joined 125 residents to oppose the completion of 22 residential units and site works in Westbury. The largest housing estate in South-East Clare could get even bigger if Clare County Council grants planning permission for an extra 22 houses. According to Punch Consulting Engineers, planning permission for this development was granted under a previous application, which has now expired. Sixteen of the proposed units are located in the proposed cul-de-sac adjacent to No. 87 Bruachlan, while the remaining six units are situated in another cul-de-sac between properties 24 and 31. A comprehensive objection signed by 127 people was drafted by Councillor Crowe, following a recent public meeting he organised in Larkin’s Pub, Parteen to oppose this “NAMA planning application”. Parteen audiologist retains top award

Providing a new lease of life to a Dublin St John of God Sister has helped a top Parteen hearing aid specialist scoop the most coveted award in his field for the second successive year. Peter Ferguson, a long-time resident of Parteen, fought off stiff competition to secure the Irish Audiologist of the Year crown for the second year running. Mr Ferguson was nominated by his patient, Anne Casey, age 64, who described how he helped her participate fully in life, after an infection caused severe hearing loss. Anne’s hearing began to deteriorate when she was just 27, having contracted Rubella, which caused damage to the nerve endings in her ear. At the time, Anne had just embarked on a teaching career in Dublin and was left devastated when her hearing aid audiologist informed her that the infection had caused such severe hearing loss that hearing aids would be of no help. Garda Ombudsman Investigates Parteen Crash

GSOC investigators are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a road traffic incident in the village of Parteen, in South East Clare in which three male pedestrians were injured on Thursday evening. A Hyundai Accent, which was being pursued by gardai after the car and its occupants were acting suspiciously in Doonass, County Clare earlier that evening. The car, which is believed to have been carrying two males, struck a parked car at the entrance to the Parteen Pitch and Putt course and three pedestrians. Two of the men who were in their 70s were injured in the incident and a further man was treated for shock. All three had played pitch and putt that evening and were crossing from Browne’s pub in the village at approximately 5pm, when they were struck. It is understood that one of the men in his late 70s has had a leg amputated following the incident. One male suspect was arrested close to the scene …
