THERE were plenty of colourful and imaginative floats and displays in Gort’s St Patrick’s Day parade. A large crowd lined the footpaths  of the South Galway town to enjoy the parade and many side attractions, which continued for several hours.

SIXMILEBRIDGE played host to an enthusiastically supported St Patrick’s Day Parade. Both young and old turned out in strength to show their appreciation for efforts which participants put into preparing their floats and marching units.

  THE Ennis St Patrick’s Day parade, which took place in fine weather conditions, attracted a huge crowd along the route through the principal streets.  O’Connell Square, where they reviewing stand was sited, was thronged to capacity. There was plenty of music and dance in the parade and afterwards there was several hours of live entertainment at Market Street car park.

AS befitting a as place known far and wide as The Long Village, the St Patrick’s Day parade in Doonbeg was a long-tailed and very colourful affair.  It reflected many aspect of local life, with quite an emphasis on the 1,00th anniversary of the death of Brian Boru. On of the most remarked upon floats was that which paid tribute to the late Padraig Haugh, the Bard of Bansha, a poet and raconteur, who penned many a verse in respect of great occasions in the parish. A very big crowd turned out to enjoy the parade.

LISDOONVARNA and September go hand in hand in terms of colour, music and craic, but the Spa town also had a great festival atmosphere for this St Patrick’s weekend. In fact the North Clare town stole a march on the rest of the country by staging its annual parade on Saturday. The organisers were thrilled by the level of participation, saying it well exceeded their expectations.

MAYOR of Clare Joe Arkins is standing by his decision to participate in the New York St Patrick’s Day Parade, despite a call to follow the  boycott stance taken by New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio in support of gay rights groups. Mayor Blasio has decided not to march in his own city parade over the long standing exclusion of American gay and lesbians  publicly express their sexual orientation under a banner. Councillor Arkins and Ennis Town Mayor, Mary Coote-Ryan have been invited by the Clare Association in New York to represent local authorities in the New York Parade. Lesbian and Gay Bisexual and Transgender director Brian Sheehan from Kilrush has appealed to the two Clare first citizens to seriously reconsider their participation and follow the “moral leadership” shown by Mayor Blasio by opting out of the parade. PLANS are underway for this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in Ennis with the theme ‘The Life of Brian Boú’. The parade will follow the established route from Áras Contae an Chláir, New Road and proceed along Newbridge Road, O’Connell Square, O’Connell Street and to terminate in the market. The parade will commence at 11am and is expected to take between an hour and an hour and a half to pass the reviewing stand which will be located in O’Connell Square. There will be some level of pedestrianisation at either side of the parade event, but it is not envisaged there will be full pedestrianisation. This year a delegation from Lagenfeld in Germany will be visiting Ennis for the St Patrick’s festivities. Invitations have also been sent by Ennis Town Council to St Paul de Fenouillet in France and Phoenix, Arizona who have twinning relationships with Ennis.
