Six new cases of Covid-19 in Clare as national figure drops to 650

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of six additional cases of Covid-19 in Clare, while there have been 57 additional deaths related to Covid-19. 34 of these deaths occurred in February, 21 in January, 1 in December and 1 in November. The median age of those who died was 82 years and the age range was 52-99 years. There has been a total of 4,036 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland. As of midnight, Tuesday, February 16, the HPSC has been notified of 650 confirmed cases of Covid-19. There is now a total of 211,751 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland. Of the cases notified today: 325 are male/ 323 are female 65% are under 45 years of age The median age is 37 years old 192 in Dublin, 53 in Galway, 50 in Meath, 46 in Kildare, 46 in Cork and the remaining 263 cases are spread across 19 other counties. Clare records 15 new cases of Covid-19

THE Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 15 new cases of Covid-19 in Clare, while there have been a further 33 deaths related to the disease notified. 31 of these deaths occurred in February and two in January. The median age of those who died was 81 years and the age range was 42-105 years. There has been a total of 3,980* COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland. As of midnight, Monday, February 15, the HPSC has been notified of 744 confirmed cases of Covid-19. There is now a total of 211,113** confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland. McNamara sharply critical of Covid restrictions

THE head of the Dáil’s Covid-19 committee has questioned whether those who set the rules on curbing the virus understand how people really live their lives, insisting that the current approach is not working. In a sharp attack on government and the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), Deputy Michael McNamara said a greater focus must be placed on educating people about how to live alongside the virus. Reacting to news that Gardaí are to be given enhanced powers to shut down pubs in breach of regulations, the Scariff man was highly critical of the government’s current policies. “We’ve had inspection, after inspection, after inspection,” he said. “On one weekend alone, Gardaí inspected 6,000 premises. Four deaths and 98 new Covid cases nationally

FOUR patients with Covid-19 have died, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) As of midnight Thursday 6th August, the HPSC has been notified of 98 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There is now a total of 26,470 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.  There has now been a total of 1,772 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland. Saturday update: No further Covid-19 deaths reported

THERE have been no new deaths reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre on Saturday (August 1), and no new cases diagnosed in Clare. Nationally, there have now been 1,763 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland. As of midnight Friday July 31, the HPSC has been notified of 45 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There is now a total of 26,109 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland. The number of confirmed infections in this county remains at 391. Social distancing focus for peak holiday season

AS THE height of the holiday season draws closer, authorities are to step-up efforts to ensure people enjoy their time in Clare safety. Concerns have been voiced by some members of the council that a recent influx of visitors is putting public health and safety at risk, while a senior Garda spokesperson urged people to remember their personal responsibility in minimising the risk of a second wave of Covid-19. At the July meeting of Clare County Council, a number of members were torn between welcoming the economic boost created by the spike in visitor numbers and concerns that social distancing guidelines are being flouted in some areas. “We welcome everybody to County Clare,” said Councillor Ann Norton. “We are still in a pandemic and it is hugely important that people take heed of public health advice, whether they are here for a holiday or on a day trip. UHL can cope with second Covid-19 surge

UNIVERSITY Hospital Limerick (UHL) will be able to cope with a second wave of Covid-19, according to a senior clinician. Professor Paul Burke, chief academic officer at UL Hospitals’ Group believes Ireland may experience new clusters of the virus like other countries. Speaking at a recent media briefing in the University of Limerick, Professor predicted there will be a “relative surge” of coronavirus. “I think there will be a relative surge. There may be clusters like Seoul in South Korea. We do have a good contact tracing system in place. If we identify things quickly we will be able to curb it. “I think we will have a consistent number of Covid-19 patients in our hospitals on an ongoing basis.
