A lotto luck for North Clare syndicate

A  North Clare group collected their prize of €556,194 in National Lottery offices in Dublin on Tuesday (November 4). The “Rum for Me” syndicate, so-called as spiced rum is their drink of choice, raised a glass to celebrate their big win after matching five numbers and one lucky star number in last Tuesday’s EuroMillions draw. The lucky group comprises seven winners, aged 26 to 55, who live and work in the Lisdoonvarna, Corofin and Doolin areas. The group members have decided not to release their names. “We started this syndicate just six weeks ago”, said a member of the group. “Each week, we won small amounts and today’s winning ticket was bought with the money we’d won the week before.” The winners have lots of interesting plans for the win. “I’m going to pay for the damage I did to my father’s car this summer’, said one; another said he intends to pursue a career in 3-D animation; another member …

Lotto win ‘a blesssing’

A YOUNG married couple from Ennis who have won €268,533 on EuroMillions are keeping it quiet. They, along with two other prizewinners who collected their bounty at the National Lottery offices in Dublin on this Tuesday, are remaining anonymous. The three prizewinnings added up to a total of €468,000. The Ennis couple matched five numbers and one Lucky Star on Friday, August 22 to win their prize, but they didn’t discover the news until this past weekend. “I spotted the ticket lying in the jeep on Sunday and thought, I must check that,”said the husband. “We’ll pay off the mortgage and put it towards the kids’ college fund”, said the happy wife. “I was made redundant a few months ago, so this is a blessing for us.” The couple bought their lucky ticket in Day Today News in Arthur’s Quay Shopping Centre in Limerick City on Friday, August 22.

Luck strikes in the ‘Bridge again

It was a case of lightening striking twice at Sixmilebridge in recent weeks, although not on the same dramatic scale. An anonymous players won €4.4 million in the National Lottery Jackpot, having purchased a quick pick ticket at Reddans last month. Despite the best effort of locals to uncover the identity of the winner, not a sniff of information has leaked out. Meanwhile, Lady Luck has also shined for well-know local man,Tom Sheehan, who won €53,000, including a shopping spree, at the National Lottery’s Money Spinner event at National Lottery offices in Dublin. Tom was the biggest winner of five players. The winning ticket was purchased in O’Garney Centre, Sixmilebridge.

Clare projects approved for built heritage scheme

TWENTY  Clare projects have been approved for €121,000 in funding under the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014. These projects will allow for a range of important conservation works to take place at protected buildings in all parts of Clare and will generate and support employment in the conservation and construction industries and in specialist trades, according to Labour TD, Michael McNamara. “Among the projects that will be supported include the former Moyasta Railway Station, Christchurch Church of Ireland in Spanish Point, St Cronan’s Church, Tuamgraney and the Mill Wheel in Ennis.The scheme is funded from the sale of the National Lottery but it is a condition of the scheme that taxpayers funds will at least be matched by private funding. “The County Council, to whom responsibility for administration of the scheme has been devolved in Clare, has assessed applications from owners/occupiers of protected structures and then submitted them for approval in principle by the minister,” remarked Deputy McNamara.
