Decision on Lufthansa’s Clare base by end of year

LUFTHANSA Technik Shannon has filed its annual report for 2020 which says a decision on the future of the company is likely before the end of the year, writes Owen Ryan. The report stated the outcome of a strategic review process in relation to restructuring options being considered “represents a material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt over the ability of the company to continue as a going concern”. Outlining the 2020 performance, the report said, “Turnover for 2020 at €51.5 million was lower than 2019 at €74.2 million”. The company’s profit for the financial year was €1.145 million, compared to €1.896 million in 2019. “Average employee numbers were 505 in 2020, slightly up on the 2019 level of 476. Direct employee levels increased by 7% in 2020 compared to 2019. Administrative personnel levels also increased by 45 compared to 2019,” the report stated. A new name for Shannon Aerospace

Shannon Aerospace, operated by Lufthansa Technik, as part of its European aircraft overhaul network, has been formally renamed Lufthansa Technik Shannon. Shannon Aerospace (SAL) – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG – has thus joined Hamburg, Berlin, Budapest, Malta and Sofia as one of the six European base maintenance facilities in name, as well as in practice. The change in name coincides with the 25th anniversary of the company, which provides services to over 50 airlines and employs a workforce of more than 500. The renaming of the company is not yet visible everywhere and will be implemented step by step over the coming months. It will not entail any changes for customers in their current contracts, addresses or contact partners. Lufthansa Technik Shannon specializes in the overhaul of short- and medium-range aircraft.
