Clare teens get down to business

A total of 742 students from 13 local secondary schools in Clare are learning about the world of business by setting up their own enterprises through the Student Enterprise Programme with Local Enterprise Office Clare. The Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, Pat Breen T.D. has officially launched the 2017/2018 Student Enterprise Programme, which is the biggest enterprise education initiative of its kind in the country. Minister Breen said: “Since the Student Enterprise Programme began in 2003, more than 150,000 students have benefitted and we want to keep nurturing Ireland’s future entrepreneurs and business leaders in the years to come. Entrepreneurship is the backbone of the Irish economy and initiatives such as the Student Enterprise Programme are key to fostering a more enterprising culture. 4,000 job target through rural development

CLARE is the first county to launch a rural development strategy, which has a 4,000-jobs target, following the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development. Today (Thursday), Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring officially launches the Clare Rural Development Strategy 2026, which targets the creation of the 4,000 jobs over its lifetime.The launch takes place at an event organised by the Clare Rural Development Forum in Kilmaley Community Daycare Centre. The action plan aims to create the 4,000 jobs through the development of community-led social enterprises, supported by Enterprise Ireland, Local Enterprise Office Clare, the Office of the Action Plan for Jobs (APJ), the LEADER Programme and the rural and community support unit of Clare County Council. Digital hubs will be established at numerous locations throughout the county to support rural enterprise by facilitating e-working, small-scale training and conferencing. Awards on offer for enterprising students

The Local Enterprise Office Clare will host the annual Student Enterprise Awards finals, featuring more than 250 secondary schools students, at Treacy’s West County Hotel, Ennis, on this Thursday morning. The Programme is part of the National Student Enterprise Awards competition, which sees over 17,000 students compete annually on the national stage. It seeks to stimulate the creation of real-life businesses in secondary schools, by encouraging students to research and manage their own business, with the support from local business mentors. The event will see students presenting their enterprise ideas at various stalls throughout the venue. Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including Best Display, Best Business Plan and Best Innovative Business. Category winners from the Clare final will advance to the national final, to be held in Croke Park in April.
