Football championships reach knock out stage

The way is clear for the knock out stage of the four adult football championships. Clondegad and Ennistymon claimed the final two quarter final spots in the race for the Jack Daly (senior) cup with wins over St. Senans Kilkee and St. Breckans respectively. Clondegad had a runaway victory over the West Clare outfit early this Sunday afternoon (6-16 to 0-7) while Ennistymon were made work hard for their place in the quarter finals when they faced their North Clare neighbours St. Breckans at county headquarters in Cusack Park on Sunday evening. Ennistymon won on a 1-17 to 1-13 scoreline. Lissycasey and Cooraclare had booked their places in the last eight yesterday while already through following the second round of the competition were Doonbeg, Kilmurry-Ibrickane, Cratloe and title holders Miltown St. Josephs The semi-final line up in the intermediate championship will see Kilfenora take on Shannon Gaels and Kilmihil face Kildysart. Tuning up for a winter weekend of top class entertainment

MORE than 1,000 people are expected to flock to Bunratty and Sixmilebridge for the annual Shannonside Winter Music Festival and visitors to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park will be in for some special performances as part of the line-up. The castle and folk park will play host a number of events on Saturday, January 17, from 12noon to 5pm, giving its visitors a flavour of all that the international music event has to offer. Each year, the Winter Music Festival showcases a variety of music genres and has been growing year-on-year both in popularity and in the diversity of the acts. For the fourth year-in-a-row, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park will play host to the best of this year’s talent across five venues. The acts change every hour and perform a 45 minute set each. Football quarter final line up complete

By Seamus Hayes The line up for the quarter finals of the Clare senior football championship was completed this weekend and the last eight games are scheduled for the weekend of September 5, 6 and 7. Eire Og went into their game on Sunday with Lissycasey as favourites to progress and while the justified that favouritism, few would have predicted the size of their winning margin. The townies recorded a runaway 3-16 to 0-6 win and were well on their way to a quarter final date with Miltown before the mid point of the game had been reached. First half goals form Eoin Glynn and Stephen Hickey helped the winners to a 2-12 to 0-1 lead. While the second half was closer, Eire Og continued to dictate matters and Dean Ryan struck for their third goal with ten minutes remaining. On Saturday evening, Cooraclare had progressed to the last eight with an easy 2-13 to 1-3 win over Ennistymon. On …
