Big week for Hayes as he scores for club and country

Eoin Hayes’ early quickfire brace sent Newmarket Celtic on their way to a 6-1 thrashing of Lifford, and helped his side maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Fresh from that double the Newmarket man justified his call-up to the Republic of Ireland amateur team for their double header against Northern Ireland with the winner in the first leg this Wednesday. Hayes, who captained Ireland on the night in Dungannon, was on hand as strike partner Eoin Murphy knocked on a long clearance from keeper Gary Cunningham to bury the ball in the Northern net. @Fai Amateurs V Northern Ireland Amateurs @DgnSwifts @NewmarketCeltic striker Eoin Hayes gave Gerry Davis's team the away win.@FAIGrassroots @FAIreland @LSLLeague @RockmountAFC @NewmarketCeltic @Striker1Online @olivercelticfc @TerryHealy2 @EamonScott1 pic.twitter.com/bcIxrciml4 — Terry Healy (@TerryHealy2) September 22, 2022 The return leg will be played in Whitehall, Dublin next Wednesday, September 28. Premier League wrap: Bridge United finish on a high

Lifford AFC 1 Bridge United 2 Bridge United secured a final day victory as Mark Colbert’s side finished comfortably in fourth place. A victory here for Lifford would have seen them finish fifth. However, this defeat coupled with Mountshannon Celtic’s victory over Shannon Hibs ensured that Adrian Walsh’s side finished sixth. Lifford will be relatively pleased with their season as despite some early poor results, they were able to finish comfortably in the middle of the pack. Leon Daly gave Bridge an early lead but that strike was cancelled out by Niall Guinnane as the sides retired to the dressing rooms level at 1-1. The second half saw both sides push forward in search of a winner but with little in the line for either outfit, the game lacked the necessary cut and thrust that both of these sides have displayed throughout the 2021/22 season. Bridge managed to find the winning goal when 16-year-old Darragh Hayes struck a late winner …

Pride on the line in joint fundraiser

The playground in Lahinch, which was badly damaged by storms earlier this year, will be one of the beneficiaries of a white collar boxing event taking place in Ennis next month. Tide versus Pride is being organised as a joint fundraiser for Lifford AFC and Lahinch Playground Rescue Fund. Lahinch playground has been closed for months because of the severe storm damage and the committee behind it are hoping to have it reopened before the summer. “We need to get the ground works finished in it to install the accessible equipment. We wanted to do this before the storm damage and had started fundraising for that but if we don’t have a playground, we can’t get more equipment. Accessible equipment is quite pricey. It would be about €20,000 for that alone, just for the equipment and its installation,” said committee member, Nicola Hartigan. “Unfortunately, the playground is still closed and we have signs up indicating that but people are not …
