Scariff entrepreneur one of Ireland’s best

A 35-year old businessman from Scariff who developed a smart connected office chair (Agilis) for athletes that helps to reduce muscle tightness and back pain has been named as a Runner-Up in Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE). Damien Mason of FlexiBod, representing Local Enterprise Office Clare, was runner-up in the Best Business Idea Category (pre-trading) having already won the coveted title at the IBYE Regional Final during February. Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor, T.D., made the announcemen at the IBYE national final held at Google’s European Headquarters at the weekend. The overall competition was won by Ciara Clancy of Beats Medical, a company which has developed an app that is transforming the lives of thousands of people with Parkinson’s disease. Local Enterprise Office Clare is inviting young entrepreneurs from across the county to submit their entry to Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) as the competition deadline draws near. With a €2million investment fund available, including a €50,000 investment fund for Clare winners, the initiative from the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland attracted 1,400 applications across Ireland in 2015 and supported over 450 young entrepreneurs through training, mentoring and direct financial assistance. The competition is now in its third year and last year’s local winners were Diarmuid McSweeney of Shannon-based Grasshopper in the Best Start-Up Business category and Overall County Winner; Peter Hunt of Piggyback from Bridgetown in the Best Business Idea category; and Charlie Glynn of Glynn Technical Diamonds based in Kilrush in the Best Established Business category. Minister launches LEO Clare

MINISTER of State for Small Business, John Perry TD,  officially launched the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Clare at Áras Contae an Chláir in Ennis. Combining the resources of the Clare County Enterprise Board and Clare County Council’s business support unit, the Clare Local Enterprise Office (LEO) is one of 31 LEOs around Ireland that is tasked with delivering services and support to businesses within a framework set by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and overseen by Enterprise Ireland. Minister Perry was joined at today’s launch by the Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council Councillor  John Crowe who described Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as  “the lifeblood of local communities” throughout County Clare. The Cathaoirleach explained: “Jobs created by the SME sector help to keep employment levels up and emigration levels down which is key to rural communities surviving the economic downturn.
