Body of Maria Hennigar identified

Remains found in Galway Bay last week are those of a missing North Clare resident, Maria Hennigar, gardaí have confirmed. 35-year-old Ms Hennigar was reported missing on November 22 although she hadn’t been seen since early November. Family and friends of Ms Hennigar had been searching large areas of north Clare despite having no indication where Maria was or if she was actually missing.Hundreds of people joined the searches which also involved the Irish Coast Guard, Clare Civil Defence and gardaí. When part of a body was discovered in the sea near Kilcolgan on November 29, Ms Hennigan’s family was informed and DNA samples were taken so they be could compared to those taken from the body. Maria’s family have thanked the Gardaí and volunteers search teams for their efforts in the search. Taoiseach digs in on Gort/Tuam motorway

AN Taoiseach, Enda Kenny was joined by Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar Hogan on Friday,  in turning the sod on the €550 million Gort to Tuam (M17/M18) motorway project “This sod-turning event is another step in the Government’s plan to make the recovery local. It’s the largest Public Private Partnership in the current Stimulus programme and is real evidence that Ireland’s PPP market is again open for business. The Gort to Tuam motorway will reduce journey times and significantly improve access in the region. Some 450 new jobs are being created now that the project is underway. The finished motorway will remove several major bottlenecks, boost competitiveness, promote regional development, and generate yet more jobs. It also marks a major step in developing the Atlantic Corridor road network along the west coast,” Mr Kenny said. KILCOLGAN Educate Together National School unveiled its new website this week. The school, which opened in September 2008, launched the new website (www.kilcolganetns.com), which promises greater input from pupils and teachers alike, according to principal Anna Eagleton. “With the rapid growth of our school, it is becoming increasingly important to have a wide-reaching and easily accessible and easily manageable platform to keep our parent body and community up to date. “A school website is, for many, the first contact they will have with a school and our hope is that any visitors to our site will enjoy the virtual experience as much as the real one,” said Ms Eagleton, who paid tribute to third-class teacher, Clare Lucey, who designed and built the site. “The most genuine and sincere thanks are due to Aidan McCarthy and Clare Lucey for developing the new website,” she stated.
