Mid-West TDs unite to defend ‘Heathrow slots’

Following the announcements of recent approaches to Aer Lingus by IAG, the Irish Takeover Panel has deemed that Aer Lingus is now in an ‘offer period’, Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Paschal Donohoe said on Tuesday evening. He was speaking in the Dáil in response to a joint submission by Deputies Michael McNamara, Timmy Dooley, Joe Carey and Kieran O’Donnell on the necessity to maintaining London Heathrow slots to ensure balanced development. “The Takeover Panel Rules in relation to communications apply to all parties during such an offer period and all parties, including the Government as shareholder, must apply the highest standards of care to any statements made on the matter. Specifically shareholders must take care in any of their communications to avoid revealing any information that could potentially impact either positively or negatively on the Aer Lingus share price,” Minister Donohoe said. Free BreastCheck for women 65-69

The HSE is making budgetary provisions for Free BreastCheck mammograms for women in the 65-69 age group next year, it has emerged this Monday. Following  correspondence with Tony O’Brien, national director of the HSE, Deputy Kieran O’Donnell has received formal confirmation from the HSE that his proposal to extend Free BreastCheck mammograms to women in the 65-69 age group is now forming part of the HSE’s budget process for next year. “I am very pleased with this confirmation from the HSE. It’s a crucial step along the road to extending BreastCheck to women aged 65-69. It follows a commitment I previously got from the Minister for Health in the Dáil that free BreastCheck monitoring will be extended to women aged 65-69 during the lifetime of this Government. “What the HSE is now effectively saying is that the HSE has made a business case to the Department of Health to extend BreastCheck to women aged 65-69, and the HSE has included the …

A step closer to ‘legal’ Shannon Group

THE Cabinet on Tuesday agreed the final text of the State Airports (Shannon Group) Bill, which will finally and formally establish the Shannon Group as a legal entity incorporating Shannon Airport Authority and Shannon Development. “I am pleased to confirm that the cabinet today agreed the final text of the legislation that will give formal effect to the status of the Shannon Group,” said Deputy Kieran O’Donnell. “Once this Bill passes through the Houses of the Oireachtas, the final piece of the jigsaw for the independent Shannon Group will be in place. This is a very significant development for Limerick and the Mid-West. I expect the legislation to be published next week and to be passed through both the Dail and Seanad before the end of July. “At that point, full legal effect will have been given to the Shannon Group structure and its status will be beyond question. We are entering the final chapter of the single largest restructuring of the …
