The Clare senior football champions of the past two years, Miltown St. Josephs who are the current title holders and Cratloe, will meet in the 2016 semi-final. They were the first two teams drawn when the semi-final draw took place at Clare GAA headquarters on Monday evening. This means that the other semi-final willsee last year’s finalists, Cooraclare, take on either Kilmurry-Ibrickane or Lissycasey whose quarter final tie scheduled for Saturday last was cancelled due to the search for missing Lissycasey man David McMahon. The semi-finals are set to be played on Saturday and Sunday week. Meanwhile, the pairings for the quarter finals of the junior A football championship were also decided and they are Kilmurry-Ibrickane v Killimer, Naomh Eoin v Ballyvaughan, Michael Cusacks v Cooraclare and Clooney-Quin v Meelick. The way is clear for the semi-finals of the junior A hurling league (division 4) and both games will be played next Sunday (July 3). Broadford have finished on top of the league table after the completed their  programme of games with victory over St. Josephs, Doora-Barefield. Ballyea finished in second place thanks to a comfortable win over Tubber this Saturday evening. Despite going down to O’Callaghans Mills, Meelick remain in third spot with the Mills filling the final play off position. In next week’s semi-finals Broadford will play O’Callaghans Mills while Ballyea will face Meelick. Meanwhile, in the junior B hurling league (division 5), Newmarket and Wolfe Tones 1 have qualified from division 5 A, Parteen are through from division 5 B while the qualifier from division 5 C will be confirmed after Wolfe Tones 2 play Broadford on Tuesday. Bonfires blazed across the parishes of Shannon and Coolmeen-Cranny on Saturday evening after Wolfe Tones and Coolmeen were crowned intermediate hurling and junior A football champions repectively. Goals proved decisive and Wolfe Tones won back senior status after a year in the lower division when they defeated Broadford at O’Garney Park in Sixmilebridge. Two goals in each half proved too much for Broadford who, despite scoring seventeen points, were five adrift when the final whistle sounded. The winners got off to a dream start with a Kevin McCafferty goal as early as the fourth minute. Broadford rallied and drew level by the thirteenth minute and they will be disappointed that they weren’t ahead at this point but poor shooting proved costly. Ahead by a point after twenty minutes the winners struck again and Jack Cunningham found the net, a score that helped them to a half time lead on the score of 2-4 to 0-7.   By Seamus Hayes All-Ireland final replay weekend got off to a bright start for Cratloe and Clarecastle when they catured the junior A and under 21 B hurling championship titles respectively on Friday evening. Through to the final since early May, the under 21 players from Clarecastle and Feakle-Killanena finally played their final at Dr. Daly Park in Tulla. The magpies led by three points, 1-8 to 1-5 at half time. Feakle-Killanena fought back to within a point of their opponents ten minutes into the second half but the magpies pulled away in the final twenty minutes to secure the title. Meanwhile, at Sixmilebridge, Cratloe scored a narrow win over St. Josephs to claim the junior A crown. The sides were evently matched throughout but a goal in each half proved decisive for Cratloe who won on a final scoreline of 2-11 to 0-15.
