June named Clare’s ‘most inspirational person’

JUNE Curtin from Spanish Point has been named Clare’s Most Inspirational Person by an initiative to shine a light on unsung heroes. The West Clare woman was this year’s Clare winner of the Gala Retail Inspiration Awards, run in association with Virgin Media. June’s extensive and inspirational work in the mental health and charity sectors within the local community earned her the title of Inspirational Person in this year’s awards. June really impressed the judges for her work in the local community and is a worthy winner of the county award for her inspirational efforts. The founder of Snamhaí Sásta, a community of swimmers, June promotes the benefits of sea swimming and the importance of minding your mental health. She also fundraises every December for the Simon Community by swimming three times a day from December 1 until December 21. From a huge volume of nominations, 26 county heroes were crowned. June spreads ocean of love and raises over €55k for charity

IN the final weeks of the year leaving the house can be an ordeal, not to mention getting into the Atlantic on a wet or cold winter’s morning or afternoon, but June Curtin was there time after time, day after day. And this week, thanks to those efforts, she was able to present a cheque for €55,782 to the Mid West Simon Community, funds raised from supporters of her regimen of swimming three times a day for three weeks of December. “Doing it seven days a week is one thing, but three times a day is very challenging, I have to say, mentally and physically,” June told The Clare Champion. “This year, towards the end of it, I was absolutely exhausted, I have two children at home, I’m trying to run a house, and I work at home through Snámhaí Sásta doing talks and things, so I was juggling a mountain of stuff.” She also did it in 2020 and …

June begins daily swims for homeless

FOUNDER of the Snámhaí Sásta swimming group in Spanish Point, June Curtin is hoping to raise €50,000 for Mid West Simon by Christmas. She has recorded a song with CDs on sale around the county right now, while on Wednesday she started swimming three times a day at Spanish Point, repeating her successful 2020 fundraiser. Speaking about the song, June says, “The Snámhái Sásta community and I recorded a single in Martin O’Malley’s studio outside Miltown Malbay. It’s a Tommy Fleming song, Don’t Give Up Till It’s Over, we had 1,000 CDs printed and they’re available in Ennis and all around Clare. Clare woman’s December dips to raise money for Mid-West Simon

AN inspirational Clare woman is lending her love of sea swimming to a fundraising drive to raise €50,000 for the most vulnerable in our community. Mid West Simon Community has teamed up with Clare’s June Curtin for the initiative with June committing to three swims a day for three weeks in December to raise money for the charity. As founder of Snamhaí Sásta, June is no stranger to the icy cold waters of Spanish Point, but building on her successful fundraising campaign last year, she has upped the ante this year by committing to a total of 63 swims, between December 1 and December 21. June and her community of happy swimmers have been meeting at Spanish Point every day since 2019 and it has been the catalyst towards helping many maintain their mental health.
