A 16-year-old male has been charged with violent disorder arising from a late night row in Kilkee that saw three people sustain head injuries, writes Gordon Deegan. At the Children’s Court of Kilrush District Court sitting in Ennis, Sergeant Louis Moloney said that CCTV footage shows the teenager – then aged 15 – breaking a bottle off a wall and running with it towards a row which was off camera. In the case, the teenager is charged with committing violent disorder at the Strand Line, Kilkee, on July 31 2020 contrary to Section 15 of the Criminal Justice Act. Sergeant Moloney said that no injured party named the teenager as the person who carried out the attacks on the three injured parties. He said that one of those assaulted required 43 stitches and staples to injuries to his head and arm. AN unemployed Ennis man who gardaí say paid for a €43,000 SUV in €50 notes has failed in a bid to have the vehicle returned, writes Ronan Judge. At Ennis District Court, Judge Mary Larkin refused the application brought by Ned Doherty (30), with an address at St Michael’s, Ballymaley, Ennis. The court heard the Toyota Hilux SUV was seized by gardaí in March as part of a wider garda operation. Doherty brought an application under the Police Property Act, seeking the return of the jeep. The applicant’s solicitor, Daragh Hassett, said that this is his client’s second such application since the seizure of the jeep. Mr Hassett said his client instructs that not many items were taken by gardaí during the March search and that the jeep was taken as gardaí left, “almost out of frustration”. A COUNTY Clare farmer has told of his distress after losing 14 of his animals in a ‘sheep kill’ last year, writes Gordon Deegan. At Killaloe District Court, farmer, Martin Cooke said of the shocking find “I wouldn’t wish it on anyone”. After arriving on February 16 2020 on his lands adjacent to a canal bank at Clonlara, he couldn’t see any of his sheep but did see two dogs nearby. Mr Cooke said that there were around 50 sheep in the flock and after searching, six or seven dead sheep had to be fished out of the canal. He had earlier spotted two dead sheep floating down the river adjacent to his land-holding. Mr Cooke told the court that 13 sheep were found dead from the sheep kill and another had to be put down afterwards to bring the death toll to 14. A POSTMAN got “bull thick” with a garda after he found out he was getting a speeding ticket, a court has heard. At Ennis District Court, Garda Darren Lynch said he was operating a speed detection point at Cahercalla More, Kilrush Road, Ennis on January 14, 2021, when he stopped a vehicle driven by Gearoid Noel O’Brien (25). Garda Lynch said the vehicle was detected driving at 82 km per hour in a 60km zone The garda said Mr O’Brien told him he had been “caught here before” and that he was not going to pay any speeding ticket. Garda Lynch said Mr O’Brien then said to him, “Shove it (ticket) up your hole, you fat b*****d”. Mr O’Brien, with an address at Villa Park, Monmore, Kilrush, denied speeding and contested the summons against him.
