Estuary land zoning builds ‘investor confidence’

Clare County Council says the zoning of more than 345 hectares of land along the Shannon Estuary will give ‘greater investor confidence’ for anyone considering large-scale marine related development proposals. Earlier this week the council’s elected members unanimously backed the move to incorporate the zoned lands into the Clare County Development Plan 2011-17 along with the Strategic Integrated Framework Plan (SIFP) for the Shannon Estuary, a major strategic plan for the future development and management of marine-related industry and tourism along Ireland’s largest estuary. The newly zoned lands relate to Strategic Development Locations (SDL) at Cahercon and Moneypoint where existing pier facilities and deep estuarial water provide potential for maritime industry investment. Clare County Council says it would welcome any opportunity to discuss suitable development proposals for the locations. 50 new jobs for Shannon

By Owen Ryan FIFTY new jobs are coming to Shannon as Pepper has announced it will create the positions at its servicing centre in Westpark. The company has invested €500,000 in expanding its premises and the additional space would provide capacity for another 30 workers after 50 are recruited. There are currently 120 people working there. Pepper has signed an addendum to its existing ten year lease which will see its office space increased to 19,000 square feet. This follows a €2 million investment in new systems and office facilities undertaken last year. The new jobs will be in mortgage arrears handling, customer service, real estate expertise and legal expertise. News of the jobs comes a week after Zimmer confirmed it has taken on 30 new staff since the start of the year in Shannon. Paul Doddrell, CEO of Pepper Ireland said the significant change to the lease terms is due to a requirement to facilitate its rapidly expanding operation. …

Clare sporting heroes ‘selling’ Ireland

TWO Clare sporting heroes are challenging the entire nation to play their part in selling Ireland to foreign companies expanding into Europe. Three-time hurling All Star and All-Ireland winning manager with Clare, Davy Fitzgerald, has teamed up with Ireland and Lions rugby legend Keith Wood in a new ConnectIreland campaign which launches shortly at Shannon Airport.
