Man arrested following attempted Ennis burglary

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s in relation to an attempted burglary at a business premises in Ennis on Thursday. Shortly before 2am, Gardaí from Ennis Garda Station received a report of a man trying to gain entry to a business premises on Barrack Street in Ennis. Gardaí attended the scene and were able to ascertain details of the man believed to have been involved. His details were circulated to all Gardaí in the area and a man in his 30s was arrested a short time later. He was brought to Ennis Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Five arrested following Ennis burglary

Gardaí have arrested five men in their late teens and early 20s, in relation to a burglary at a phone shop on O’Connell Street, Ennis in the early hours of this morning (Monday). Shortly before 2.30am, Gardaí in Ennis received a report of a burglary that had just occurred in which a grey car was seen leaving the area. Gardaí located the suspect car and carried out a managed pursuit. The car was abandoned on Ballyalla Grove and the occupants fled in different directions. One man was arrested by Gardaí and is currently detained at Ennis Garda Station. A search of the car was carried out and Gardaí recovered a large quantity of mobile phones that had been stolen. Gardaí put a cordon in place in the surrounding areas and a car was stopped on the Gort Road at around 5.30am. Body discovered in Ennis town centre

The body of a woman discovered in Ennis town centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem is due to be carried out. Gardai in Ennis have launched an investigation after the woman in her 40s was found at the Riverwalk area of the town at around 6am. According to Superintendent Brendan McDonagh of Ennis Garda Station there is no indication of foul play at this moment, however they are awaiting the results of the post mortem. CCTV cameras are being examined as part of the investigation. Gardai are appealing to anybody who saw the lady walking the Parnell Street, Woodquay or Riverwalk area of the town between 10pm and 6am Monday night / Tuesday morning to contact them on 065 6848100. .

Arrest following Kilrush supermarket burglary

Gardaí in Kilrush have arrested and charged a woman in her 20s in relation to a burglary at a supermarket in Kilrush on Sunday evening. Shortly before 6pm a woman entered the private canteen area of the supermarket and took money from a handbag. She then left the store without being noticed. An investigation was carried out by Gardaí and a woman in her 20s was arrested on Sunday. She was detained at Kilrush Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and has since been charged to appear before the courts at a later date.

Man detained in Ennis as counterfeit notes are seized

GARDAí have arrested a man in his late teens and seized approximately €2,000 in suspected counterfeit notes following searches in Ennis and Ennistymon today (Thursday). As part of an ongoing investigation, Gardaí from the Clare division carried out a search at two houses in Ennis and Ennisymon. During the search in Ennis, Gardaí seized 100 counterfeit €20 notes. A man in his late teens was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Speaking at Ennis Garda Station, Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona O’Rouke said: “We would like to remind businesses to ensure that staff carry out essential checks on any notes, regardless of the denomination. “Check the obvious security features before accepting notes, including the watermark, security thread, hologram patch and raised print. By taking the time to feel, examine and tilt the notes, businesses can prevent taking the loss to your business.”

Huge crowd attends Newmarket public meeting

TEMPERATURES were just above freezing and had been for most of the day, but it didn’t stop 150-200 people turning out for a special meeting in Newmarket-on-Fergus on Monday night. There were three items on the agenda, and they related to problems that are often found in rural Clare in 2019. Firstly there was the lack of a GP in the village, secondly was the perceived low level of Garda presence and finally the absence of services from the village’s main street. Recognising the local concern, Clare’s four TDs travelled as did Senator Martin Conway. Also there were Councillors John Crowe, Michael Begley, Pat McMahon and Cathal Crowe, while the Gardai were represented by Inspector Paul Slattery. Two arrested in Shannon

GARDAÍ have arrested two men in their 20s in relation to two burglaries in the Drumgeely area of Shannon, Co Clare on Saturday, November 9. Shortly before 9pm, Gardaí from Shannon Garda Station received a report of two burglaries that occurred at shops in the Drumgeely area that had recently occurred. Gardaí attended the scene and carried out a patrol of the area. As a result, two men were arrested and brought to Shannon Garda Station where they are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí Issue Bank Holiday Road Safety Appeal

AN Garda Síochána have issued an appeal for this Bank Holiday weekend urging road users to slow down and never drive under the influence. The Gardaí will be carrying out extensive patrols and checkpoints over the Bank Holiday weekend, as the weekend’s enforcement activities will specifically target and focus on off-peak hours (10pm to 6am) where recent studies have shown that 75% of fatalities were found to return positive toxicology results for alcohol. This October bank holiday weekend Gardaí will carry out high visibility patrols and checkpoints across the roads network and are appealing to motorists not to drive under the influence of an intoxicant and to reduce speed.
