Shannon Airport to double capacity on Frankfurt service

SHANNON Airport has announced that its first ever scheduled Lufthansa service is to have its capacity doubled this year with the announcement of a second weekly service to Frankfurt. The service will now operate to Frankfurt on Thursday’s as well as Saturday’s, with the outbound leg on Thursday’s arriving in Frankfurt in time to meet onward connections at one of Europe’s largest and most important airport hubs. The service will operate weekly using an Embraer190 aircraft on Thursdays and an Airbus A319 on Saturdays and will run from the May 2 to October 12. Welcoming the announcement, Shannon Airport Managing Director Andrew Murphy said:  “This is very positive news for us as it reaffirms the market that there is for Shannon for services into European hub airports.  Lufthansa, which is one of Europe’s biggest airlines, came on board with this service in 2017 and would not be doubling frequency unless the demand was there. Woman dies after becoming ill on flight

A woman in her 70s has died after she became ill on a flight from Frankfurt in Germany to Newark in the US, which was diverted to Shannon Airport on Wednesday afternoon. The elderly woman had a heart attack and the flight, which was over the Atlantic Ocean at the time, turned back and landed in Shannon. The woman received treatment on board the flight but she was pronounced dead soon after the flight landed in Shannon. Her body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem.

Flight diversion woman released from Garda care

AN 87 year old woman who was arrested following the diversion of a flight from Frankfurt to Toronto has been released from Garda care. It is understood that she spent a portion of last night at a local hotel and she is set to leave Ireland at some point today. Gardai don’t expect there will be any further action taken in relation to the matter. After having received reports of a disruptive passenger Gardai were on hand when the Air Canada flight on which she was travelling touched down at Shannon at around 8.20pm on Friday evening.

Local hairstylist is world class!

65,000 hairdressing professionals descended on Frankfurt for a spectacular event to see the OMC World Cup take place. With over 1,300 world class competitors from 50 countries local hairstylist Bridget Haren from Altamoda Hair in Ennis triumphed with a fourth placement with her ladies fashion look and as part of a four team in the ladies progressive cut and colour took the bronze third place world medal overall in the team event.

Barcelona may not be the first place you think of when it comes to cars, but the city is home to the giant Martorell plant, which for a long time has been producing SEAT cars. Since 1986, Seat have been majority owned by the Volkswagen group, although during our trip to the factory, the personnel there were anxious to point out that they had a proper research and development department, fully capable of designing a car from scratch and bringing it to production. In fact, the Martorell plant develops entire cars, including the Audi Q5 and whole subsystems for other marques in the group and employ over 1,000 people. We visited the design centre and were met at the gate by a couple of guards who asked us for our phones. They proceeded to put stickers over our camera lenses so that we couldn’t take pictures.
