Parish collections go digital

THE passing of the collection basket at mass may have been stopped due to Covid-19, but that hasn’t prevented local parishes from being right on the button when it comes to facilitating donations. Both the Ennis parish and Doora-Barefield parish websites have included a ‘donate’ button in which contributions can be made to the parishes online in a safe and secure way. Fr Jerry Carey of Doora-Barefield parish explains that contributions to the parish are “vital” to the ongoing funding of services. The new online facility has three sections where parishioners can donate an individual amount or choose an ongoing payment option. Donations can be made to Parish Funds for the day to day running of the parish which supplements the weekly basket and development fund collections. There are also Priests’ Collections, funds which go to paying the priest with the surplus going to pastoral care in the Diocese. There are four of these collections annually. Home stays needed for 300 cyclists against suicide in Ennis

LOCALS are being asked to make a “wheel” effort in supporting the upcoming Cycle Against Suicide, by opening up their homes to 300 participants. The cycle will be making its way through Ennis on Saturday, May 3 and organisers need homestays for the cyclists who have taken on the challenge to raise suicide awareness. Fr Jerry Carey, who is working towards finding places for the participants, along with training to take part in the cycle himself, said he is “absolutely confident” that the generous people of Ennis will answer the call. He explained, “Cycle Against Suicide is a national initiative that was started by Irish entrepreneur, Jim Breen, as a result of his appearance on The Secret Millionaire. The main objective of the cycle is to raise awareness of the considerable help and supports that are available for anyone battling depression, self harm, at risk of suicide or those bereaved by suicide. Parish Mission for Doora Barefield

THE Parish Mission in Doora-Barefield  opens on this  Sunday and runs until Fridaynext. The mission will incorporate the three churches of Doora, Barefield and The Church of our Lady, Roslevan. The mission begins in Doora Church on Sunday with an opening ceremony at 7pm, to which everyone is invited. From Monday through to Friday each morning, mass will be celebrated in the Church of Our Lady, Roslevan at 7am and again at 9.30am. Each evening, from Monday to Thursday, mission ceremonies focusing on a theme, will take place in Doora at 7pm and Barefield at 8.30pm. The mission closing ceremony will take place in Barefield Church on the Friday at 7pm. On Wednesday, a special mass of Anointing of the Sick will be celebrateed  in the Church of Our Lady, Roslevan at 12 noon.
