St Joseph’s Miltown 0-14 Ennistymon 0-8 ST Joseph’s Miltown are county football champions for the 14th time, following a superb second half display in the 2018 county final in Cusack Park. Miltown won their last senior championship in 2015 and tied down Jack Daly for 2018 when they outscored Ennistymon 0-8 to 0-4 in the second half, having led by two points at the interval. The big difference between the sides was Miltown’s ability to score from play. Six of their players combined to kick their 0-10 tally from play. In contrast only Joe Dowling, who fought manfully and Joey Rouine raised white flags from play for Ennistymon, who showed great heart throughout. Following a frenetic first half, Miltown led 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time. Ennistymon’s kick out strategy caused problems for Miltown in the opening quarter and that helped them into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead by the 11th minute. Ennistymon CBS 3-14 St. Mary’s Newport 3-4 Ennistymon CBS captured the Munster under 15 D hurling title and the Kevin Marren cup when they defeated St. Mary’s from Newport at Meelick this afternoon. Goals from Liam Cotter, Sean Rynne and Brendan Rouine streered the North Clare side, managed by Jason Daffy, to this latest success. The team was captained by Cillian McGroary from Corofin and he was presented with the trophy which commemorates a Newmarket man who gave many years of service to the promotion of hurling at schools level in particular. St. Declan’s Kilmacthomas 2-7 Ennistymon CBS 1-8 There was heartbreak for Ennistymon CBS in the Munster colleges Corn Shean Ui Mhurchu senior C football final at Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale on this Saturday afternoon. Ahead by six points at half time, things looked food for the North Clare outfit but they went twenty minutes of the second half without a s core and this proved very costly. Paul allen goaled for the Waterford side four minutes into the second half and this goal rocked the Clare side and clearly gave the winners great confidence. St.Declan’s had drawn level by the mid point of the half and then hit the front when full forward John Power goaled. Minister for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market & Data Protection Pat Breen has announced that €63,000 has been granted to Clare for agricultural shows next year. “This €63,000 will be a huge benefit to the nine shows in County Clare who will each receive a grant of €7,000 each. The Clare shows include Kildysart, Kilrush, Clarecastle, Corofin, Ennistymon, Mullagh, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Bridgetown and Scarriff. “This funding is particularly useful to the smaller shows that are susceptible to weather and other unexpected costs that can occur,” said Minister Breen. “Agricultural shows are hugely important to the rural economy, with surrounding towns and villages benefitting hugely from each show. “The Government considers this funding an important investment in rural communities and I am delighted that my colleague Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring has granted this funding for Clare,” he said

Clare County Council is introducing a temporary traffic signals system on a trial basis at Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon to address traffic congestion in the area. The system will be put in place this Tuesday and will require monitoring with a view to optimising its performance in terms of improving traffic flow during peak periods in particular. The signals will be located on each of the three approaches to Blake’s Corner. Clare County Council is confident the proposed improvement scheme to address traffic congestion at Blake’s Corner will advance to the planning stage by the end of the year. The statement follows extensive consultation with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) on the optimum design for the scheme which proposes an inner relief road incorporating a new bridge across the Inagh River, 80m upstream of the existing bridge. Aldi has increased its presence in County Clare with the opening of its new store in Ennistymon today (Thursday). A total of 15 new jobs have been created at the store. The new Ennistymon store is Aldi’s third store in the county and brings the total number of Aldi stores in Ireland to 129. The first Aldi store in Ireland opened in November 1999. Declan Coyne, manager in Ennistymon said, “We are delighted to open our new Ennistymon store and look forward to welcoming many new customers from the local area. Aldi has established solid roots in many of Ireland’s local communities having developed longstanding partnerships with numerous Irish producers.In the last five years Aldi has recruited over 70 new Irish suppliers, meaning Aldi now partners with more than 175 Irish producers. Over 50% of Aldi’s supplier spend is now with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers.

With a shop floor spanning 1,140 m² and 80 free car parking spaces, the new store will be Aldi’s third in County Clare, the others located at Francis Street in Ennis and Ennis Road, Kilrush.
