PLANNING permission is being sought for 68 houses at Roslevan, just off the Tulla Road in Ennis. The application has been made by Datcha Construction, a Ballynacally-based company, which lists John and Anne Kelly as its directors. A document submitted with the application states, “A proposed planning application is tobe made for 68 dwellings to add to the existing Cluain Ros Leamhan estate in Roslevan, Ennis, Clare”. It also adds, “The site is located approximately 3km from the Ennis town centre to the north of Tulla Road (R352). The site is accessed via the Cluain Ros Leahmain Road, which connects to the Tulla Road at the roundabout south of the site. The development is the northern part of the existing Cluain Ros Leamhain housing estate. To the south of this is the Avenue United Football Club and the Grove Bar and Restaurant. THE preferred contractor for the €8.6m Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme has been revealed. Civil and MEICA Engineering Contractors, Ward and Burke have had a letter of acceptance signed by Clare County Council, with the contract to be finalised on March 8. “This essential work will afford flood protection to over 120 homes and five commercial properties along the Clare Road, including homes in estates such as Ard Aoibhin, Abbey Ville, Abbey Court, College Green and College Grove. This work will also provide flood protection to St Flannan’s College, Ennis,” Deputy Pat Breen said. “Like many others, I was disappointed to learn last July that the then preferred contractor for the Ennis South Flood Relief Scheme had formally withdrawn its tender. However a commitment of €8.6 million funding for the project from the OPW was secured and ring-fenced allowing for the project to go to tender again immediately. LIT has confirmed its plans to open a new campus in Ennis on foot of a proposed capital investment of €0.75 million by Clare County Council. Located on Bindon Street in the town’s historic core, the new facility will enable a substantial increase in higher education activity in the town. Reflecting LIT’s regional development remit, the LIT Ennis campus will join LIT’s existing campuses at Clonmel and Thurles in County Tipperary; Moylish and Clare Street in Limerick City; and a new engineering-focused campus currently under development at Coonagh in Limerick. A total of six degree programmes in Social Care, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Marketing and Management are now available through the CAO at LIT in Ennis for September commencement. Possibilities for evening and professional learning will also be opened up. THE Active Ennis John O’Sullivan Park, Lees Road is certainly fit for purpose when it comes to accessibility. Three new fitness circuits for walkers and athletes of all abilities have been introduced to the 130-acre woodland at Active Ennis John O’Sullivan Park, Lees Road. The Fartlek Interval Training System features colour-coded posts located throughout the woodland, with each one dictating relevant programmes and exertion level guides. The new system has been delivered with funding of €10,000 received under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme with an additional €10,000 being funded by Clare County Council. Fartlek, a Swedish term meaning “speed play”, is a form of continuous interval or speed training that allows the athlete to run at varying intensity levels over varying distances. Meanwhile, funding has been provided through the Healthy Ireland Fund towards the provision of three all-terrain wheelchairs, two of which are based in Active Ennis John O Sullivan Park, Lees Road and one in Active Kilrush Sports Complex. …

THE founder of Clare Haven, Mary Fitzgerald, has been chosen to lead this year’s Ennis St Patrick’s Day parade. Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of the Clare county capital on Sunday, March 17 for the 2019 Ennis St Patrick’s Day Parade. Clare County Council is once again seeking to make the Ennis parade a countywide affair with artistic, cultural and sporting groups together with schools, scouts and a range of community groups from all over Clare taking part. Application forms are available on the Clare County Council website. In excess of 10,000 people lined the streets of town during last year’s parade, which featured 40 groups representing the many aspects of life in Ennis and County Clare. This year there will be prizes awarded for the entrants that provide the “Most Musical & Colourful Spectacle”. Heavy rain in Ennis has led to some spot flooding in parts of the town, including on the Tulla Road. Motorists are asked to drive with care in most parts of the county as some additional bouts of intermittent rain are likely. There have been regular instances of heavy rain throughout Tuesday, results in instances of rain pooling on busy roads.
