Clare’s fastest man gunning for gold

Ennis Track’s Gabriel Kehinde sets his sights on being Ireland’s fastest man as he prepares to compete in the 60m sprint at the 123.ie National Senior Indoor Championships. Kehinde enjoyed a stellar 2023 in what was undoubtedly the best year of his fledgling athletics career. He was part of the Irish quartet that set two national records in the European Under 23 Championships, became Munster Senior champion and secured bronze in both the Indoor and Outdoor National Championships. Despite enjoying a decent start to this season, the 22 year old is keenly aware that despite the 60m discipline suiting his ability to get out of the blocks quickly, the race is unforgiving with any mistake likely ending his quest for gold. “For 60 metres you cannot get anything wrong. Clare teenager set to represent Ireland U17 in cross country

Ennis Track athlete Peter Farrell is part of a 12-strong Irish team that will compete in Scotland tomorrow. The Irish U17 cross country athletes are heading to Perth in Scotland to race in the UK Cross Country Challenge. With no Celtic Cross Country this year, the Athletics Ireland Juvenile Committee felt it was vital for future development that a squad travelled to gain valuable international experience as the athletes progress into the junior ranks. This squad was selected from the 2022 National U17 Cross Country Championships in December. Farrell secured bronze in the Intermediate boy’s race at the Irish Life Health All Ireland Schools Championships last March. Meanwhile, the Clare Senior and Juvenile B Cross Country Championships was recently held in Clarecastle. Dean Casey secured first place in the Senior Men’s competition with Ennis Track romping to team gold as their athletes secured the top six places. Ennis Track coach: European bronze ‘huge for Dean’

Ennis Track coach Pat Hogan has hailed the performance of Dean Casey after the Ennis youngster secured a bronze medal at the European Cross Country Championships last weekend. Hogan freely admits that even though the focus with Casey was on producing a strong performance, the result is a huge boost for the Ennis man. “Ultimately sport is about results. It’s a results based game. Someone picks up the paper and they look at the result first. Everything a coach does is grey but it’s black and white once you step foot on the line. On Sunday evening he was third and that’s all that matters. “He worked his way through the race. Dean kept in the pack because it was a very challenging course before he managed to move clear on the last hill. It’s huge for him. Casey hails ‘unreal’ result as he claims European U20 bronze

Ennis Track athlete Dean Casey secured a bronze medal at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships on Sunday.  The Ennis man produced a lung bursting run to secure third place as the Irish U20 team scooped a silver medal. In his post race interview over in Italy, Casey stated: “For me it’s just unreal. I came thirteenth last year when I know I wasn’t the best so to come third this year shows how much training I’ve done.” Fellow Irish athlete Nick Griggs finished second as he was pipped on the line. Casey ran the 6km race in 17 minutes and 46 seconds. He finished six seconds behind the winner from Great Britain Will Barnicoat and five behind Griggs. He was eight seconds ahead of Great Britain’s Sam Mills in fourth. Casey shows ‘maturity beyond his years’ with world U20 display

Dean Casey (Ennis Track Club) has come thirteenth in the men’s 5,000m World U20 Athletics Championship final. The Clare man produced a strong, tactical performance throughout the 5,000m, showing a maturity in his running far beyond years. Casey maintained his position within the leading pack of the 22-man competition, crossing the line with 14:37.79 on the clock. The gold medal winner Ethiopia’s Addisu Yihune crossed the line in a time of 14:03.05. After a successful opening day for Team Ireland at the World U20 Championships, the Irish singlet returns to the Cali stadium tomorrow at 6:05pm with Lucy McGlynn taking to the women’s 400mH heats.

Ennis athlete to compete at World U20 Championships

Ennis Track athlete Dean Casey has been selected to represent Ireland at the World U20 Athletics Championships next month. Casey is one of eight athletes chosen to represent his country with the prodigious talent set to compete in the 5,000m event in Colombia. The selection is a huge fillip for Ennis Track and his coach Pat Hogan. Dean’s father Ger is also involved in coaching within the club while his mother Maureen is PRO of Ennis Track. Dean has enjoyed a stellar year so far as he helped his club become Junior men’s champions at the ECCC Cross Country Championships in February. He finished first in this race with his brother Dylan securing second spot as Ennis Track shocked Europe with a brilliant team display. Although he is more comfortable running the 5,000m, Dean obliterated the Irish 10,000m record in May. The talented athlete ran a time of 28.57.34 at the Highgate Harriers Night of 10,000m PBs Meet. Ennis honours its own with mayoral reception

THE sporting and musical achievements of local groups and individuals in Ennis has been honoured at a mayoral reception. Mayor of Ennis Municipal District, Councillor Ann Norton, and members of Clare County Council hosted the event in the Civic Room of the Buttermarket Building in Drumbiggle, Ennis. Those honoured included accomplished groups and individuals from the worlds of music and sport. Ennis Brass Band received an honour for entertaining the people of Ennis and Clare for 50 years. 2021 was a milestone year for Ennis Brass Band, marking the 50th anniversary of the band’s formation. The band has competed in various competitions throughout Ireland, winning several national titles and sectional awards along the way. Ennis Brass Band has performed in England, Wales, Germany, Scotland and France, and has played for distinguished guests such as President Michael D Higgins, former President Mary McAleese, Muhammad Ali and King Juan Carlos of Spain.  Also Alana McInerney was recognised at the event on being …

Ennis athlete makes Irish World Indoor Athletics team

AN ENNIS Track runner is among 19 athletes that will represent Ireland at the World Indoor Championships next week. Cathal Crosbie is part of the squad named by Athletics Ireland for the Championships taking place from March 18 to 20 in Belgrade, Serbia. The Clare man takes his place alongside Chris O’Donnell, Brian Gregan, Robert McDonnell, Cillin Greeneawdsley and Mark English Molly Scott (St. Laurence O’Toole’s AC) is set take the World Indoor Championships by storm after her incredible record breaking 60m performance at the Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Championships in February, retaking the Irish Record with a time of 7.19. Phil Healy (Bandon AC) has been a strong feature of the Irish indoor season, after winning the Irish life Health National Senior Indoor Championships Healy went on to set a new 400m PB, 51.66, at the World Indoor Tour in Madrid last week (2nd March).
