Property marking clinic to be held in Ennis Mart

A PROPERTY marking clinic will be held at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, April 18 from 10am to 1pm. The Clare County Property Marking Scheme is part of a nationwide property marking programme which aims to combat property theft and assist in the identification and return of stolen property. “Property that is marked is less likely to be targeted and less desired by thieves,” outlines Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks. Garda Cormac Fallon, Ennis Garda Station, Ennis Mart and Clare County Council are hosting the clinic. Farmyard equipment such as trailers, chainsaws, consaws, power tools, or any items of value, can be marked at the clinic. The service is being provided for free. Gardaí from the Divisional Roads Policing Unit will also be present to meet people and answer any questions they may have in relation to trailer and towing safety, driver licencing and agricultural machinery on the roads.

HSA investigation underway after bull injures 3 people

THE Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are today beginning an investigation after an incident yesterday in which a bull injured three men at Ennis mart. The incident occurred yesterday morning and the bull has since been put down while two of the men remain in hospital. A HSA spokesman said that their inspector will be at the mart today, to investigate the incident. Clare Marts released a brief statement on Friday morning. “Clare Marts confirms an incident took place in the Ennis Mart on Thursday, May 25 at the point of intake of animals.  Three men were injured and taken to hospital and two men remain in hospital.  All agencies were notified of the incident.”

One campside plan for Fleadh 2017

THERE will only be one campsite for Fleadh revellers this year if the plans in the event licence application are approved, local businesses have been told. While there were a number of campsites last year, this year there is only one campsite, which is in Clarecastle, in the event licence application. Details of car-parking arrangements and event control were outlined at the meeting by Clare County Council Fleadh co-ordinator Noleen Fitzgerald. The early part of the festival comprises of Scoil Eigse, a summer school of Irish traditional music, song and dance for children. It is competition time from Thursday to Monday, when competitors will flock from the United States of America, Europe, the United Kingdom and provincial champions from all over Ireland. Patrons can also look forward to concerts, lectures, Seachtain na Gaeilge and Fleadh TV. Ennis cycle lane starts on Quin Road

Work on Route 1 of the Ennis Active Travel Towns on the Quin Road began today (Saturday). The works, being undertaken by M Fitzgibbon Contractors Ltd, on behalf of Clare County Council, will continue for a period of approximately four weeks and will involve the construction of a new cycle lane from the Bruach na hAbhainn housing estate to the Quin Road rail bridge. Two new zebra pedestrian crossing points (close to the entrance to Ennis Mart and between Western Garages and Bruach na hAbhainn housing estate) and four informal crossing points will be introduced on the Quin Road. In addition, junction alterations will take place at the entrance to the Quin Road Industrial Estate to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety, while new public lighting will be installed with landscaping works also to take place on the route. Plans facilitate Cusack Park move

Clare Marts had requested the council to delete any references to the relocation of Cusack Park to the subject site from the Draft Clare County Development Plan 2017-2023. However, councillors took a different view and decided to include a resolution into the draft plan to facilitate the move, if this is sanctioned by Clare GAA in the future. The council stated, “This opportunity site on the edge of the town has been zoned for mixed-used development and, given its location, it is particularly suited to facilitate the relocation of Cusack Park, should the need for a new stadium arise during the lifetime of this plan. “Adequate lands have been zoned to also accommodate the necessary car, coach and bicycle parking on the site, the development of which will require the use of permeable surface, given its location within an area of flood risk,” the resolution stated. Farmers have chance to clear hazardous waste

Clare farmers are being encouraged to avail of an upcoming opportunity to dispose of their hazardous wastes. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has teamed up with Teagasc, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Local Authorities, WEEE Ireland and the European Recycling Platform (ERP) to operate 10 bring centres for the collection of farm hazardous waste across the country, one of which will be located in Ennis next Monday, from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Waste items ranging from out-of-date pesticides to waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) and from waste engine oil to contaminated waste packaging can be deposited at Ennis Mart. The farm hazardous waste campaign was successfully piloted in 2013 and ran again in 2014. Over 3,000 farmers brought waste to 16 collection centres and disposed of 260 tonnes of hazardous waste and 100 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and batteries. “This scheme provides farmers with an excellent opportunity to dispose of their hazardous wastes …
