Ennis library fund reallocated to municipal districts

IN an email to all 28 county councillors on Monday, Clare County Council chief executive, Tom Coughlan said €75,000, which had been earmarked for the development of Ennis library, would instead be distributed to all four municipal districts and allocated according to population. “I have again reviewed the proposed budgetary allocation for 2015 and it has been determined that a sum of €75,000, which had been provided in respect of advance cost for the Ennis library development, may not be provided from the revenue account in 2015,” Tom Coughlan said.“Accordingly, I have suggested to the Corporate Policy Group that the sum of €75,000 be made available to the municipal districts and that this sum be allocated proportionately on a population basis to each municipal district,” he added. New app for dementia carers

To coincide with September being World Alzheimer’s Month, a free app has been launched to help the 50,000 family carers in Ireland cope with difficult dementia care situations. The Daily Companion App has been created by Home Instead Senior Care, as pocket guide to dementia care providing access to quick, helpful tips from experts and other caregivers. To  support family caregivers in the local community, Home Instead Senior Care is offering a free dementia care education workshop on Tuesday, September 16  in Ennis Library from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Participants are asked to register by phoning 061-4620701. Attendees will  be advised how the on-the-go guide for dementia caregivers is available for download at no cost in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Council supporting National Biodiversity Week

Clare County Council is marking National Biodiversity Week 2014, which runs until Saturday, with the official launch of a new strategy aimed at promoting, protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of the county. The Clare Biodiversity Action Plan 2014-17, approved by the council, has identified how biodiversity can boost tourism, enhance the local environment, and assist organisations and individuals working in the area of conservation and heritage. Key objectives of the Plan include supporting the recording of biodiversity across County Clare and to submit all biodiversity records to the National Biodiversity Database Centre; raising awareness of the role of biodiversity in climate change and the importance of wetland management in preventing flooding, and encouraging proposals relating to the positive management and additional planting of native tree species.
