A MAN who admitted spending nights at an address other than the one provided to gardaí, in contravention of the Sex Offenders Act 2001, had his case adjourned at Ennis District Court on Wednesday. The charge was admitted by the defendant but his solicitor, John Casey claimed he hadn’t properly understood the requirement upon him and regretted it greatly. The court heard that the defendant had been away from the Ennis address provided for more than seven nights between February 14 and March 30, without notifying gardaí. Speaking to the court, Mr Casey said the defendant had been careless about the terms he is bound by and hadn’t understood that staying overnight would be a breach, if he wasn’t changing his address. It was claimed he had been staying overnight at the house of a partner in another part of Ennis and had been returning to the address gardaí were aware of, where he was arrested. WEAPONS have been routinely carried through Shannon by the US military, it was claimed at Ennis District Court on Tuesday, during a hearing into a case against TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly. During evidence, Irish Times security analyst, Tom Clonan played a recording taken from a plane at Shannon, which advised soldiers to leave their weapons on board. Also, a former Irish army officer warned that missiles that were brought through the airport on one occasion could have resulted in it being blown up, along with much of the adjacent Shannon Industrial Estate. Mr Wallace, 59, of Clontarf Road, Dublin 3, and Ms Daly, 46, of Elmwood Drive, Swords, Dublin, are accused of climbing a perimeter fence at Shannon Airport and entering a part of the airport to which they were not permitted on July 22 of last year, contrary to the Airport Bylaws of 1994. TDs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace are due to appear before Ennis District Court on Tuesday morning in relation to an alleged “illegal entrance” to a restricted area of Shannon Airport last July. Shannonwatch has issued a call for people to to come to the court to support the TDs , “who attempted to inspect a US military plane at Shannon”. “Their alleged offence is illegal entrance into a restricted area of the airport, and their action was in response to the failure of the authorities to inspect US aircraft at Shannon,” said a Shannonwatch spokesman. Shannonwatch have repeatedly called for an end to the US military use of Shannon. MORE than €28,500 was raised for charity in 2014, following the allocation this week of funds from Clare’s District Court poor box. The funds collected in the poor box were distributed across 23 charities this week by Clare’s District Court Judge Patrick Durcan and the recipient charities are expected to receive the funding prior to Christmas. This year, the charities benefitting from the most funds are the St Vincent De Paul, with €5,000 allocated to St Senan’s Kilrush conference of St Vincent De Paul and a further €5,000 to St Vincent De Paul in Ennis. Ennis Community Development Project and the Lions Club of Ennis are set to receive funds of €1,500 each. Donations of €1,000 were made to 12 charities, which included Hand in Hand (Children’s Cancer Charity); Diabetes Ireland Clare Branch; Dream Believe Achieve; Rape Crisis Midwest Clare Centre; Clare Crusaders; Cahercalla Hospice; Poor Clares in Ennis; The Samaritans, Ennis; ClareCare; Clare Haven Services; Pieta House and Childline. …

A 30 year old man has appeared before a sitting of Ennis District Court this Thursday in connection with an alleged hit and run incident at Knockadoon, Tulla on October 28 last. James O’Donoghue with an address at Bay 8, Lynch’s Lane, Clondalkin, Dublin 2, appeared before Judge Aeneas McCarthy on Thursday charged with a single charge of dangerous driving at Knockadoon on October 28. Inspector Tom Kennedy, prosecuting, outlined that the State would allege that the accused was involved “in a hit and run incident in which the defendant crashed his car into another vehicle, he then left the scene and later turned up at hospital”. Garda Darren McLoughlin of Scariff garda station gave evidence of arresting the defendant, charging him and administering the relevant caution. Eighty-year-old peace activist, Margaretta D’Arcy  was brought to Limerick Prison on Wednesday  after she presented herself at a garda station in Galway. On June 24, Ms D’Arcy of 10 St Brigid’s Place, Woodquay, Galway and Niall Farrell, a 60-year-old man with an address at Ballynacloghy, Maree, Galway were both found guilty of interfering with the proper use of Shannon Airport on September 1, 2013, at a sitting of Ennis District Court. The defendants were sentenced to two weeks in prison, which was suspended on condition that they enter a bond to stay away from restricted areas of Shannon Airport, something Ms D’Arcy refused to do. Speaking on Wednesday, Ms D’Arcy’s son Finn Arden said, “She brought herself to the garda station in Galway at 11am this morning and then she was carted off in a garda car to Limerick.” Speaking about his mother’s frame of mind on Wednesday, he said, “Gardaí came to the house earlier and they wanted to …

A DISTRICT Court judge said there is a “huge flaw” in the system, whereby a man, who was on a methadone detox programme in prison, was released before completing it, without any link-in services being provided in the community. The issue arose in the case of Gerard Delaney, with addresses at Inis Ealga Shannon and formerly of Rineanna View, who appeared before the court on a breach of bail, arising from a burglary. The court was told that the defendant had been on a methadone detox programme while on remand in Limerick Prison. He did not finish the programme in prison and was released with no follow-up care or referral. Arising from the incident, Judge Patrick Durcan has requested the governor of Limerick Prison, or someone with the relevant authority, come to court next Wednesday to explain how this can happen. Judge Durcan heard the defendant “was not finished the programme when he left prison. It was not possible for …
