CYS volunteers’ contributions to young Clare people honoured

THE contribution Clare Youth Service volunteers make to young people in Clare has been celebrated at the recent annual CYS Volunteer Awards. After two years of virtual events CYS were thrilled to be able to hold their annual Volunteer Awards in person with the support of Ei Electronics. The annual Volunteer Awards are a key feature of the Clare Youth Service calendar in which CYS recognise important milestones in the voluntary service of the people upon whom the Service depends. The Volunteer Recognition Pin is awarded across the country to Youth Work Ireland Volunteers who give their time and energy to help and support young people by running youth clubs and schemes, supporting programmes, supporting organisations as advisers, fundraisers and as members of local and national boards. The scheme is based on recognizing length of service through the presentation of pins; Silver for five years and Gold for 10 years. Thriving Ei Electronics moves to seven-day operation

ALREADY one of the county’s largest employers, Ei Electronics is going to be a seven-day operation from this October. It has announced it will have weekend shifts for the first time and says the move is “in order to support increased market demand and employee flexibility”. The shifts will be from 8am to 8pm on both Saturdays and Sundays and the company say there will be jobs for test technicians, production line maintenance and quality inspectors. They also say that the roles may be attractive to third level engineering students. Ei pitches in to redevelop Clare school’s astroturf facility

A REDEVELOPED astroturf facility was officially opened last week at St Patrick’s Comprehensive, with much praise for the generosity of Ei Electronics, who funded it. Ei Electronics has made substantial contributions to numerous local organisations over the years, doing a huge amount to improve the social fabric of Shannon and the wider region. Taoiseach opens new EI Electronics development as jobs set to be added

TAOISEACH Mícheál Martin was at EI Electronics in Shannon today, where he officially opened the company’s new 10,000 square metre facility. The company are locally owned and one of the biggest employers in Clare, while they expect to add around 200 more staff over the coming year. When construction on the new facility began in 2020 they predicted that the development would allow them “to significantly expand our teams and current production capacity over the coming years, as well as deepening our ties with the local community and region.” The new development provides provides additional Manufacturing Capacity, R&D, and Office Space. Leading Clare firm sets out sustainability stall

THE progress of Ei Electronics is one of the great success stories of Clare business, with the company now employing 1060 people in Shannon and still seeking to add to that figure. This week saw it publish its first Annual Sustainability Report, charting its progress over the last 12 months as it seeks to become carbon neutral by 2030. Writing in the report company chairman and CEO Mick Guinnee said that sustainability is vital to the company’s future. “I have set the Ei Electronics Group the ambitious target of being Net Zero Carbon by 2030. “We’re growing, the Covid thing was just a little blip’

WHILE the economic situation is precarious, one of Clare’s largest employers has begun work on a major expansion and is currently recruiting new people in anticipation of very high levels of business in the coming months. Shannon company Ei Electronics is locally-owned and produces fire detection and carbon monoxide products. It already employs some 750 people in Shannon, while it is currently looking to increase this number and when their expansion opens next year, they expect to recruit well over 100 new staff. Despite the Covid-19 crisis, the sod was turned on the expansion of its Shannon facility this week, and it will comprise a three-storey, 10,000m² building, adjoining its current headquarters. It is due to be open in the third quarter of 2021. CEO Mick Guinee led a successful management buy-out of the company in 1988 and has overseen major expansion in the years since then.
