Breen leads Enterprise Ireland delegation on Egyptian trade mission

CLARE Fine Gael TD Pat Breen, Minister for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection will lead Enterprise Ireland’s two-day trade mission to Egypt which started on Tuesday (December 4). The 12 participating Irish companies offer products and services in the fintech, ICT, energy management, agritech and healthcare sectors. The trade mission is part of Enterprise Ireland’s strategy to diversify into new markets in preparation for Brexit. During the two-day mission, Minister Breen will promote trade with Ireland when he addresses the Egyptian Irish Business Forum followed by a meeting with HE Amr Nasser, the Egyptian Minister for Trade and Industry. He will also address a Business Networking Breakfast with key Egyptian influencers and industrialists and a trade reception at the residence of the Irish Ambassador to Egypt. Clare TD visits Ibrahim Halawa in Cairo

The Chairman of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen visited Wadi Al-Natrun prison in Cairo for a 90 minute meeting with Ibrahim Halawa on Wednesday afternoon. This follows a meeting between Deputy Breen and members of the Halawa family at Leinster House on Monday. Deputy Breen said that he found Ibrahim in reasonable spirits, despite the serious challenges of his detention over the past two years. “Earlier today [Wednesday] I met with Ibrahim Halawa in the Wadi Al-Natrun prison. I found him a young man in reasonable spirits in what are very trying circumstances. On behalf of the committee, I relayed our ongoing interest in his case and the concerns of his family in relation to his health and well-being and that I would bring these concerns to the relevant authorities. Celebrating Africa Day in Ennis

AS MANY as 40 African countries are represented in Ennis, according to the town mayor. Councillor Johnny Flynn was attending the Africa Day Celebrations in Ennis last week and welcomed the contribution made by all the people of the African communities in the town and throughout Clare. Africa Day marked 52 years of the African Union and African Independence and provided an opportunity for all Africans – including those who have made Ireland their home – and non-Africans to celebrate Africa, its people and their potential at a time of both great turmoil and opportunity for the continent. The day was marked on Wednesday afternoon last at the Civic Building in Drumbiggle, with food, music, poetry and the planting of an oak tree in the grounds at Waterpark.
