Wynne urges private reflection on 1916 as Covid crisis continues

CLARE’S Sinn Féin TD has called on all Republicans in the county to privately reflect on the sacrifices of Irish people during and after the 1916 Rising, particularly in light of those being made today in the fight against Covid-19. It comes as the party was forced to cancel all public events to mark the anniversary of the Rising, due to the ongoing Coronavirus lock-down. Deputy Violet-Anne Wynne said that Sinn Féin in Clare will privately remember the 1916 Easter Rising and she called on others to do likewise. “Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sinn Féin moved immediately to cancel all of its public events scheduled for Clare,” the Kilrush resident noted. “These events have included a delay in the opening of my Ennis Constituency office, Sinn Féin public meetings and functions, internal party meetings and also all events planned this weekend to Commemorate the 1916 Rising. Second Fatality in Easter Sunday Crash

Gardaí investigating a single car crash which occurred in Ennis on Easter Sunday have confirmed that there has been a second fatality. Teenager Oisín Cahill was pronounced dead at approximately 4.20am when the car he was travelling in struck the wall of the Woodstock View housing estate on the outskirts of Ennis. Gardaí have confirmed today [Tuesday] that his cousin, Darragh Killeen lost his fight for life at University Hospital Limerick at approximately 3pm. Their friend Enda Hickey remains in hospital in critical condition. All three were from the Clonfeigh area in Inch. The parish of Kilmaley was left trying to come to terms with the tragic accident. On Tuesday morning a special mass was offered in a packed Connolly Church for Oisín. Easter fun at Bunratty and Craggaunowen

SHANNON Heritage has lined up a feast of family fun this Easter at  Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and Craggaunowen. Easter fun at Craggaunowen kicks-off on Easter Sunday with a special guest appearance from the Easter Bunny. A fun filled afternoon is planned with puppet theatre, magic shows, bouncy castle, storytelling, face painting and traditional Irish music as well as some delicious Easter eggs for all to enjoy. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the famous Brendan Boat, which historian and explorer Tim Severin and his crew used to re-enact the voyage of St Brendan the Navigator, reputed to have discovered America centuries before Columbus. Thanks to Tim’s kindness, Shannon Heritage are fortunate to have the honour of housing the Brendan Boat at Craggaunowen for visitors to view and appreciate this amazing story of courage, determination and fortitude.
