DONALD Trump has cancelled his proposed trip to his golf resort in Doonbeg which had been expected to take place in or around the weekend of June 25. Last week the presumptive US Presidential election candidate said that he would be visiting Doonbeg but his Press Tour Director, Stephanie Grisham, confirmed in the early hours of Wednesday morning that the trip will only involve a visit to Scotland. However she did not explain to Irishcentral.com the reason behind the decision not to visit Ireland. Protests against Trump will were planned to take place in Doonbeg, at Shannon airport and possibly Ennis and Doonbeg. A ‘Trump Not Welcome’ group was established following a meeting in Dublin last week and the group confirmed that the first of their protests were due to be held in Dublin on Thursday June 23.

AN Taisce has made a submission to Clare County Council in respect of a planning application for coastal erosion management works at Carrowmore Dunes, White Strand, Doughmore Bay and Trump International Golf Links and Hotel, Doonbeg. The applicants are Trump International Golf Links Ireland Enterprises Ltd, headed up by business tycoon, Donald Trump, who will be the Republican Party candidate in the US presidential election in November. There’s a huge level of excitement in Doonbeg today (Friday) after the announcement that Donald Trump is to make another visit there, this time round as the presumptive Republican nominee for the US presidential election. On Twitter, he said that he will travel to Ireland later this month to visit his golf resort at Doonbeg in after visiting his courses in Scotland. The US billionaire told his eight million followers last night that he would leave for Scotland on June 22, visiting his resorts in Turnberry and Aberdeen before travelling to Ireland. THE Tubridy household in Doonbeg is steeped in football lore and when David lines out for Clare at Croke Park on Saturday evening, family members led by his father, Tommy, will be there to cheer him on. It won’t be the first time a member of the family will line out in a National Football League Division 3 final at headquarters. Forty years ago, Tommy, then still a teenager, was in the side along with another teenager, John McGrath, that faced Armagh in the final. They lost a replay by the minimum margin. News of the sudden death of Doonbeg native, Pat Cotter has caused widespread shock throughout the county. A former priest in the diocese, the 69-year-old retired from ministry a decade ago. Particularly well-known in Gaelic football circles, he won six senior championship medals with his beloved Doonbeg, being part of the three-in-a-row teams in 1967, 1968 and 1969 and again in 1972, ‘73 and ‘74. He also won six Cusack Cup medals. He played at all levels for Clare and served as a mentor with a number of Clare teams, including the senior football side. He served as a Munster Railway Cup selector. He played football with Maynooth College and he played with Wolfe Tones, when he was based in Shannon for a spell. An Taisce has awarded a record nine prestigious International Blue Flag to County Clare’s beaches, as well as two Green Coast Awards. The Blue Flag award is a prestigious environmental eco-label awarded to more than 80 beaches and a small number of marinas in Ireland.   The award represents high standards in water quality, environmental information and education, environmental management and safety, services and facilities. The Flags were presented  by Alan Kelly TD. Minister for the Environment Community and Local Government, at a ceremony held at Ballinskelligs Beach in Kerry. Blue Flags were awarded to Whitestrand, Miltown Malbay, Ballycuggernan, Whitestrand Doonbeg, Mountshannon, Cappa, Fanore, Spanish Point, Kilkee and Lahinch.
