THERE was great excitement in Cratloe this week, after a local boy scooped a vintage car in a charity fundraiser. Ten-year-old Eoin Deegan was the lucky recipient of a stylish 1969 Triumph Vitesse in the event, organised by the Clare Crusaders Children’s Clinic, Clare Suicide Bereavement Support, the RNLI and Doolin Search and Rescue. It proved to be the start of a lucky streak for Eoin, as he also won €40 from the Sixmilebridge lotto draw on Monday night. He is the son of Joan and Mike Deegan, a former Clare selector and current coach of the Cratloe senior hurlers. “We are delighted to win the car. It has generated great excitement in the house. I texted my six sisters and five brothers telling them we had won a vintage car but none of them would believe me,” mum Joan said this week. RTÉ’s Crimecall programme this week featured a renewed appeal by gardaí in Clare in a bid to discover the identity of a man, whose body was found at the base of the Cliffs of Moher four years ago. Inspector John Ryan from Kilrush said they had received some response to the appeal over the man’s identity, which gardaí in Ennistymon are now following up. Inspector Ryan has asked that anybody who might have any information about the deceased man’s identity or what had occurred towards the end of July 2010 to cause his death, however insignificant they might think it is, to contact Ennistymon Garda Station. The man’s remains were found by Doolin Search and Rescue on July 30, 2010. He was only wearing shoes and socks and was thought to have been in the water for about 10 days. HUNDREDS of cyclists will set off from Ennis this month for a very special fundraising event to remember an avid member of a local cycling club who died suddenly last year. This year’s Dolmen Challenge Tour is being dedicated to the memory of the late Seamus Mullane, a keen cyclist and member of Dolmen Cycle Club. The father of four was also known to many through his work with Aer Lingus in Shannon and more recently the court service in Ennis. As part of the cycle, the participants will pass the Mullane family home in Kilnaboy and will mark a minute’s remembrance at the nearby graveyard. The cycle will take place on April 27, leaving from the Woodstock Golf and Country Club on the Shanaway Road at 10am. As well as honouring the life of the late Mr Mullane, the event will also raise money for the valuable work of Doolin Search and Rescue. According to John Colleran of Dolmen …
