Garrihy looking forward to Oscar showdown

Clare 3 Donegal 1 Clinical Clare booked their place in the Oscar Traynor final for the second time in three years thanks to a merited two-goal victory over Donegal in Doora this afternoon Enjoying a 2-1 advantage at the interval, the decisive moment came about 23 minutes into the second-half when Clare were awarded a crucial penalty. Eoin Hayes stepped up to unleash an unstoppable rocket into the net past the hapless Joe Coll, While Donegal battled hard until the final whistle and managed to create a few goal chances, none of them were very clearcut and they couldn’t have any real complaints about the result. Remembering Brussels victims

Clare County Council has today (Wednesday) opened separate Books of Condolence in memory of the victims of this week’s terror attack in Brussels and the victims of the Buncrana drowning tragedy. Members of the public are invited to sign the Books at Áras Contae an Chláir, New Road, Ennis, during office hours (9am-3.40pm, Monday-Friday). A number of Clare people were in Brussels Airport and close to the city’s metro when the bombings occurred on Tuesday morning. Although some were badly shaken, none was injured.

Home venue for Clare in Oscar Traynor semi-final

Clare have secured a home venue for the semi-final of the Oscar Traynor inter league junior soccer competition. On the weekend of March 19/20, the Donie Garrihy managed Clare league side will entertain either the Donegal League or the North East league who play their quarter final tie on this Sunday in Letterkenny. The draw was made at the AUL complex in Dublin on Wednesday night at half time in the quarter final tie between the Leinster senior league and the AUL, a tie won by the Leinster side after a penalty shootout. Clare manager Donie Garrihy and coach Denis Hynes were present at the draw and Clare were first out of the hat. “I am delighted that we have a home tie. This is an All-Ireland semi-final and having home advantage gives an opportunity to the football family in Clare to come out and support the team and watch the best players in the league represent their county”, commented …
