Developers offer assurances over Clare village homes plan

DEVELOPERS behind plans for a major new housing estate in Tuamgraney have moved to allay concerns raised by the Council and the local community.  Michael Pearl, who submitted plans in April for 52 homes on a site on the Dock Road, has provided the local authority with a 210-page document in response to a Further Information (FI) request. The response, which includes detailed environmental and ecological reports, is now on public display, with a further submissions period open until November 29.  After plans for six four-bedroom detached houses; 22 three-bedroom, semi-detached houses; 14 two-bedroom semi-detached houses; and ten two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows were submitted in spring, six objections were made. Objector raises ‘concrete jungle’ fear over Tuamgraney plan

CONCERNS that a scenic part of Tuamgraney could be turned into a “concrete jungle” have been raised in a submission on a major housing development proposed for the village. Last month, developer Michael Pearl applied for permission to demolish an existing pumping station and built 52 houses, in a mix of bungalows and two-storey units, on a site of just under four hectares on the Dock Road. To-date, one detailed submission has been made by a resident of Reddan’s Quay who has listed 15 concerns about the proposal. The objection raised concerns about “considerable increases in the level of flooding at Reddan’s Quay”. It said that additional housing would reduce the capacity of the land to absorb flood waters. The document has also raised concern about the adequacy of screening reports on the potential environmental and flooding impact of the development. Hotel receptionist threatend with syringe

Gardaí at Limerick are investigating a robbery which occurred at a hotel on the Dock Road, in the city earlier to day. A lone male entered the hotel reception area around 3am and threatened the male receptionist with a syringe. He demanded cash and fled the scene with a cash box. Gardaí were alerted and pursued this man along Windmill Apartments where he was arrested. The 30 year-old man is currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984. No injuries were sustained during the robbery.
