Colm Galvin returns to the Clare starting line up for Sunday’s eagerly awaited Allianz hurling league quarter final clash with arch rivals Limerick. Absent for last week’s meeting with Waterford having suffered a back injury in the loss to Wexford, Galvin has been passed fit and will resume his partnership with Tony Kelly in midfield. Cathal Malone moves from midfield to wing forward and Galvin’s younger brother Ian drops down to the substitutes bench. This is the only change to the starting line up from that which faced Waterford in Walsh Park last Sunday. Draws for round 3 of the county senior football championship have been made and the games are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday week. the pairings for the relegation play off have also been decided and these games will also go ahead on the weekend of August 27 and 28 In round three of the championship, the winners of which will advance to the quarter finals, last year’s beaten finalists Cooraclare will take on Wolfe Tones. Clondegad will face St. Senans, Kilkee while O’Currys will face Lissycasey and this is a repeat of a third round game from last year when the men from the penninsula scored a one point win. The remaining third round tie will be an all North Clare affair with Ennistymon taking on St. Breckans who are managed by Ennistymon’s Brian Conway. In the relegation play off Eire Og and St. Josephs Doora-Barefield will face each other while the other tie will see Kilrush take on Corofin.

The capacity of Cusack Park where the main stand side is closed, is expected to be tested next week when the quarter finals of the senior hurling championship take place. The draw has thrown up four very interesting pairings, each of which is expected to attract a big attendance. Champions Cratloe will put their title on the line when they face their neighbours Sixmilebridge who won the title in 2013. Ballyea and Kilmaley will face each other in a repeat of round 2 when Ballyea were victorious. There will be another local derby clash when neighbours Crusheen take on Clooney-Quin while the final game will see Clonlara and Newmarket in opposition.. WITH the county’s biggest number of qualifiers in recent years, Clare’s chances of taking one of the classics at the National Coursing Meeting in Clonmel on Saturday, Sunday and Monday next have been enhanced. With five interests in the Boylesports.com Derby, a total of nine in the Greyhound and Pet World Oaks and one in the Kevin Smith Champion Stakes, the Clare contingent will have plenty to shout about. However, the Oaks draw in Clonmel Park Hotel on Sunday night was not too kind to Clare owners, as five of them were drawn close to each other in the third quarter. Any meeting of neighbours Clare and Limerick in league or championship is a huge attraction and following the draw for the Munster senior hurling and football championships for 2015, GAA fans in both counties can look forward to two such meetings next summer. All-Ireland champions in 2013, Clare’s failure to retain the title was a huge disappointment. Manager Davy Fitzgerald recently announced changes to his management team for the coming season, when Clare will have to overcome three of the province’s big guns if he is to lead Clare to a first Munster senior title since 1998. In the quarter-final, Clare will face Limerick, with the winners going on to play All-Ireland finalists, Tipperary. The winners of that will then meet either defending champions, Cork or Waterford in the final. By Seamus Hayes The all parish clash of Ballyea and Clarecastle in the quarter final of the Clare senior hurling championship is just one of a number of interesting pairings thrown up when a number of draws were made at Clare GAA headquarters in Clareabbey on this Monday evening. Ballyea, runners up to Clonlara in their group, were first drawn from the three runners up (Clarecastle and Crusheen were the other two) to join the group winners, Cratloe, Newmarket and Clonlara in bowl 1. This left Clarecastle, Eire Og, Crusheen, and O’Callaghans Mills in the other bowl. In the case of Clonlara and O’Callaghans Mills, this will be the third year in a row that the teams will clash at the play off stage. Clonlara have won the past two clashes, narrowly on both occasions The following quarter final pairings resulted; Cratloe v Eire Og; Ballyea v Clarecastle; Newmarket v Crusheen and Clonlara v O’Callaghans. THIS weekend’s National Coursing meeting at Clonmel is expected to attract a big Clare contingent. Noticeable for the 2014 meeting is the amount of qualifiers that have changed hands, among them being Blueview Barney, a Derby runner and Turbo Julie in the Oaks, both now trained by Clareman Pat Curtin. The Derby runner is now known as Roquefort Barney (Murtys Gang-Foxhall Rio) and is owned by the Windfarm syndicate of Pat Curtin, Michael Eustace, Ennis, and Galway men Gerry Hughes and Jonathan Newell. Bred by Damian McHugh, the Kilcreevin-Ballymoate qualifier is drawn in the third quarter and comes up against the Borrisoleigh qualifier, Cuban Ando, in the first round. The name of Wheres Cranny (Murtys Blaze- Rock Music) went into the Derby draw in Clonmel on Sunday night and he came out of the hat in the second quarter against the Edenderry qualifier Central Investor, owned by Brendan Duffy, Derry. By Seamus Hayes TWENTY-nine  teams will compete for three U-21 hurling championship titles in Clare in 2014. The draw for the A, B and C competitions was made at Clare GAA headquarters in Clareabbey on Monday evening and threw up some interesting pairings. Fellow parishioners Clarecastle and Ballyea will meet in a quarter final tie in the race for the A title. Another interesting quarter final clash should ensue when Kilmaley take on neighbours Inagh-Kilnamona. In all, there will be ten teams in the race for the A title with thirteen battling it out for the B crown leaving six to compete for the C title. The first games in all grades will take place on the weekend of March 1 and 2. The pairings are: U-21 A—Clonlara v O’C. Mills/Bodyke with the winners to play Newmarket in the quarter final; Clooney-Quin play Eire Og with the winners to play Sixmilebridge; Inagh-Kilnamona v Kilmaley and Clarecastle v Ballyea.
