The body of a woman discovered in Ennis town centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem is due to be carried out. Gardai in Ennis have launched an investigation after the woman in her 40s was found at the Riverwalk area of the town at around 6am. According to Superintendent Brendan McDonagh of Ennis Garda Station there is no indication of foul play at this moment, however they are awaiting the results of the post mortem. CCTV cameras are being examined as part of the investigation. Gardai are appealing to anybody who saw the lady walking the Parnell Street, Woodquay or Riverwalk area of the town between 10pm and 6am Monday night / Tuesday morning to contact them on 065 6848100. .

  Foul play is not suspected in the death of a man whose body was found in a public toilet in Ennis this morning. The discovery was made at around 8am in the local authority owned automatic public facility at Abbey Street car park. The man is believed to be in his 30s. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be carried out. Gardaí say they are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death. A spokesman said: “We are asking for anyone who was in the area of the Abbey Street car park last night, during the night or into early this morning to contact Ennis Garda Station (065-6848100) if they have any information.”  

A SLOVAKIAN man whose driving was today described as “reckless” and showed “a propensity for risk taking”, has been sentenced to six years in prison, with the final two suspended, and has been banned from driving for 15 years. Rene Miko (21) of Place de Plouzane in Kilrush pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Eugene McNamara on October 26, 2016 at Lifford, Gort Road, Ennis. At his sentence hearing today, Monday, at Ennis Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Gerald Keys said it was the court’s duty to protect the public from illegal driving of this kind. “A message must go out that anyone who drives in this manner, faces a serious sentence being imposed, and a significant ban on their licence. An Ennistymon family who tragically lost their daughter last year, are helping to make this Christmas a little bit brighter for others in an amazing act of generosity. Amy Dutil-Wall and her partner Vincent Wall from Ennistymon have endured the deepest of tragedies with the loss of Estlin Luna just before her fourth birthday in a car crash last year that also left Vincent fighting for his life. In honour of Estlin, the family have decided to donate some Christmas gifts to two worthy young girls around her age. THE death of a cyclist whose body was found on the old Crusheen-Gort road (R458) this evening was not caused by a crash, Gardai believe. It is thought that the man, who was in his 50s, may have died due to a medical complication, and the cause of death may become apparent after a post mortem takes place on Tuesday. The man was part of a group who were on a long distance cycle in support of charity. They were due to conclude the day’s cycling in Gort and spend the night there. The man’s body was discovered a couple of kilometres to the Clare side of the county boundary with Galway. The road was closed for a period of time after the body was found but has since reopened.
