HURLING: Early Banner heatwave melts Wexford resolve in All-Ireland Championship Qualifier

All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Round 1 Qualifier Clare 2-25 Wexford 2-22 AS the championship heated up so did Clare after completing a hat-trick of championship knock-out victories over Wexford since 2018 in Semple Stadium, Thurles this afternoon, reports Eoin Brennan. It was a testament to all 40 players for providing such entertainment amidst a veritable sauna as Clare passed a true test of character with flying colours after feigning off an inevitable Wexford backlash. Davy Fitzgerald’s side had previously exited the championship at the hands of the Banner in two of the last three campaigns but far from being a motivational tool, they appeared to be suffering sunstroke in the opening quarter as a sharper Clare completely dominated proceedings with 1-7 without reply in just eleven minutes. Sixmilebridge GAA Club members speak out over ‘unbelievable’ online abuse

By Ronan Judge THE chairman of one of Clare’s biggest GAA clubs has called on the association to do more to stand up for employees who are the subject of online attacks. Chairman of Sixmilebridge GAA, Paddy Meehan, told The Clare Champion that some of the abuse directed at Clare County Board secretary Pat Fitzgerald, is “unbelievable.” Allegations of online abuse against Pat Fitzgerald are the subject of a garda investigation. Meehan says, “Pat Fitzgerald is a paid employee of the GAA and I don’t believe they have stood up for him and I don’t think they have backed him 100%. Maybe if employers start backing people… because you see it nowhere else. There was a case in Kerry there where a former soccer player was being abused and it went to court. Fitzy proud of his players

Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald told the post match press conference that he was extremely proud of his team. Clare drew the All-Ireland final, thanks to a dramatic injury time point from corner back Domhnall O’Donovan. When Pat Horgan gave Cork the lead in injury time it was the first time that the Jimmy Barry Murphy managed team had lead during what were 70 pulsating minutes. “It just showed what character and what steel is about.
