Some €39,000 has been allocated by the Minister of State for Regional Economic Development Michael Ring to Coillte for the development of new recreational facilities and the maintenance and promotion of existing recreational infrastructures in Clare. The money is to be spent on the maintenance of current walks and trails and is Clare’s allocation from a national fund of €1.3million. The works will facilitate the repair to signage and the barrier at Cahermurphy; the upgrade of the trails, maintenance of seats, new signage and vegetation control in Cratloe and general vegetation control in Doon. Funding will also go towards the general control of vegetation at the access of the East Clare Way at Knocknageeha, general vegetation control around the picnic area and the replacement of the barrier at Gragans Wood; the upgrade of the trails and vegetation control in Kilrush; and the upkeep of trails, new signage and general vegetation control at Moylussa, Ballycuggaran plus the general maintenance of trails …

Kilmurry Ibrickane 2-13 Cratloe 0-6 OUTSCORING Cratloe 2-7 to 0-2 in the second half, Kilmurry Ibrickane eased to their first senior championship title since 2012 and their 14th in total in Sunday’s Clare county football final replay in Cusack Park, Ennis. Martin McMahon’s goal, nine minutes into the second half, was the games decisive score, putting Kilmurry into a 1-7 to 0-4 lead. That was Kilmurry’s first county final goal since their 2004 replay win over Éire Óg. On Sunday, Kilmurry led 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time following a first half which featured both sides defending in numbers, when they didn’t have possession. The key contributor in that half was Kilmurry full forward Peter O’Dwyer who started this time, having been introduced as a late substitute in the drawn game. Cratloe 1-9 Kilmurry Ibrickane 0-12 CRATLOE’S Cathal McInerney showed his class and composure when he steered over an injury time equalising point, to rescue a draw for his side and ensure a replay on Saturday or Sunday week in the 2016 Clare senior football final. The last drawn county final was in 2003 when Kilkee beat Kilrush in the replay. McInerney steered over the equaliser following a foul on Cratloe’s John Galvin, who was one of two players yellow carded following a brawl at the end of the first half. The incident happened as both sets of players were returning to their dressing rooms, through the communal tunnel. The respective dressing room doors, which lead directly to the field, were locked, therefore both teams had to use the tunnel. EIGHTEEN minutes into the county semi-final, Cratloe goalkeeper Pierce DeLoughrey was considering all options. Where was the nearest exit and should he make a run for it? Cratloe and Kilmurry-Ibrckane will contest the 2016 final of the Clare senior football championship after they accounted for last year’s final pairing, Miltown St.Josephs and Cooraclare in today’s semi-finals. The Cusack Park clash of Cratloe and the title holders Miltown certainly provided plenty of talking points.. Miltown hit the front after just twenty five seconds when Darragh McDonagh found the net and by the eighteenth minute they had added three more majors, another from McDonagh and one each from Eoin Cleary and Kevin Keavey. At this point they led by eleven points, 4-1 to 0-2 and looked to be on their way back to the final but from here on Cratloe stormed into the game and they hit four unanswered points in the final ten minutes of the half to leave the half time score at 4-1 to 0-6. Cratloe’s dual star Podge Collins has ruled out played both codes at inter-county level in 2017. Collins, who was the only senior inter-county dual star this year, has arrived at the decision as he feels the dual role is no longer sustainable. Crucially, though, he didn’t revel which code he will play. Speaking on Clare FM he said, “I suppose this year, just the way the fixtures fell with both teams getting to the quarterfinals… big games were on the same weekend. Playing two games in a weekend it’s unfair, I suppose, on myself and both teams so, unfortunately, I don’t think that’s sustainable so next year I’ll just be playing the one.” Collins won national league medals in both codes this year. The way is clear for the semi-finals of the Clare senior hurling championship, the pairings for which will be decided on Monday evening, after the remaining two quarter finals took place at Cusack Park this Sunday afternoon. Feakle turned in an impressive performance to record a 2-19 to 2-15 win over Wolfe Tones who played the final eighteen minutes with fifteen men after Ben O’Gorman was sent off. Dealt a huge blow in mid week when inter county forward Aron Shanagher was ruled out of the tie, the loss of O’Gorman left the Shannon side without two key players. That said, it would be wrong not to credit Feakle who played very impressively and picked off some excellent scores in the process. The High Court has awarded a Clare-based singer €64,300 in damages for injuries she sustained after she slipped and fell in a Limerick city supermarket. Rachel Prior, aged 32 years and known by her stage name of ‘Rachy P’, sued Dunnes Stores seeking damages for negligence for injuries she sustained after she slipped and fell to the ground at its outlet at Henry Street, Limerick on December 6, 2008 last. Ms Prior, who lives at Woodkawn, Brickhill West, Cratloe, claimed while shopping in Dunnes her feet shot out from under her and she fell forcefully onto her back after she came into contact with a white liquid- milk or cream- on the floor surface in the vicinity of the diary fridge. She claimed she suffered immediate pain. The court heard she suffered pain in her neck and lower back and other injuries as a result of the accident. Dunnes Stores had denied the claims.
