Don’t forget, there’s still time to enter our fabulous Calendar Girls competition. Together with The Old Ground Hotel, we are giving away a nights accommodation and dinner for two at the Old Ground, with tickets for two to see Ennis Players’ production of Calendar Girls at Glór, which runs from Wednesday, March 26 to Saturday, March 29. To be in with a chance, just send us your favourite recipe – it can be starter, soup, main course or dessert. Ennis Players are celebrating 40 years this year and the production of Calendar Girls will benefit four local charities: The Ennis branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Cahercalla Community Hospital and Hospice, Clare Cancer Support and West Clare Cancer Services

Rivalry hots up for Farmerette crown

RIVALRY is hotting up among 10 local women as they prepare to make a successful bid for the coveted new crown of East Clare Farmerette Queen next March. The line-up for the contest has been completed following the addition of another two contestants to the initial group. They include Tulla duo, Angela Lynch and Katie McInerney; Muirne Donnellan, Feakle; Aileen Thornton, Scariff; Clare Jones, O’Callaghan’s Mills; Aisling Callinan, Crusheen; Orla Burke, Whitegate, Martina Skehan, Kilkishen, Ellen Collins, Ogonnelloe and Cassandra McKenna, Bodyke. People from all over East Clare will flock with a great sense of anticipation to the Powerhouse Bar, Tulla on March 15, for what promises to be a great night of entertainment. The contestants have already started fundraising ahead of the event, which has been organised to help defray the cost of upgrading the Oak Ward at the National Children’s Hospital, Tallaght. A Christmas Fairy Tale

Once again, it’s time for the Clare Champion’s Christmas Window Display competition. The competition is open to all shops and businesses in Ennis and the aim is to enhance the festive atmosphere in the town in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Our theme for this year is ‘A Christmas Fairy Tale’. Entrants should choose one or more children’s fairy tales and give it a Christmas twist. The fairy tale itself doesn’t necessarily have to be about Christmas but it can be interpreted in any way to fit the theme.Entry forms will be available from next week, at the Clare Champion offices and entry is free. The winners will be announced before Christmas with prize winners receiving Clare Champion advertising vouchers. This is the tenth year of the competition, which has firmly taken its place in the build up to Christmas in the town of Ennis.
