Rhys makes it double gold for Williams boys at Dublin Horse Show

THERE was more success for Clare at the presitigious Dublin Horse Show this Sunday. Following his brother Coen’s victory in the U-16 148cm final at the main RDS arena on Friday, Rhys Williams won the International 7 & 8-year-old competition. The PARC Stables rider took victory this afternoon aboard the 7-year-old Playboy JT Z (Presley Boy x Plot Blue). Last year, the Ennis brothers made showjumping history by becoming the first pair of siblings to be crowned leading international horse rider and leading International pony rider at the FEI International Jumping Nations Cup Youth Finals.

Ennis Showjumper Wins International and National Titles

A TALENTED young Ennis showjumper has followed up recent European success with victory at the Dublin Horse Show in the RDS this Friday. Coen Williams was the captain when the Irish Pony U-16 showjumping team of Eoin Brennan, James Brennan, Paddy Reape, Williams and James Derwin, managed by Gary Marshall, won the team gold medal at the FEI Jumping European Championships for Ponies in Strzegom, Poland recently. In addition to the team award, Coen also won an individual bronze medal. In fact, this was the first time since the European championships started in 1978 that Ireland won first, second and third as well as team gold. Coen will be part of the Irish U-16 team that will be paraded before the Aga Khan Nations Cup final in the RDS on Sunday to mark the team’s outstanding achievements. Clare rider Coen is goin’ for glory in Europe

YOUNG Clare rider has been selected on the team to compete at the European Equestrian Semi-Finals in Poland in August, writes Conor Clohessy. Coen Williams (15), out of Parc Stables on the Kilrush Road, outside of Ennis, is the under-16 national champion in show-jumping and achieved his highest accolade to date at the RDS National Championships 2019, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Having trained on ponies since the age of four, he now travels to the biggest competition that he can attend at his age. Coen’s mother Paula said: “Once he comes out of the 16s he’ll be taking part in adult competitions and looking onward to the Aga Khan and the Olympics. He’ll be going to Strzegon, in the south-west of Poland, with four others on the Irish team. “There are 20 nations competing, and over 150 individuals. Coen will be taking part in the team and will also compete as an individual.” The competition stretches over five days …
