Backroom alterations haven’t dimmed Scariff-Ogonnelloe focus

Sarah Skelly was part of the panel when Scariff-Ogonnelloe made that unpredecented charge through Clare and Munster in 2019. Having been there from the start of the amalgamation’s development from intermediate to senior, her experience is now required to carry the torch at management level alongside manager Alphie Rodgers and Pat Minogue after last year’s county and provincial winning backroom team headed by David Sullivan opted to step down following their All-Ireland Semi-Final reverse in February. It means that despite their unbridled success, Scariff-Ogonnelloe’s senior squad are playing under their third different management in as many years but still managed to successfully navigate their way back to a third final in four seasons. “It’s never easy to get back to the final and particularly this year as last year’s management stepped down quite late after our All-Ireland Semi-Final loss against Oulart-The-Ballagh.” commenced selector Skelly. “So it understandably took us a while to try and gather ourselves and our agenda for …

Truagh-Clonlara set sights on unfinished business

Getting to a final is one thing, winning one is a completely different challenge as Truagh-Clonlara found to their cost last November. Granted, having relentlessly strived to make the breakthrough to their first ever senior decider, the squad actually got to contest two in the space of a fortnight but that was scant consolation having come out on the wrong side of the replay. The mindset is different this time around though according to joint-captain Michelle Powell whose sterling performances for the Clare junior side subsequently earned her a prestigious Soaring Star nomination in the last few days. “Last year was such a novelty. I mean there’s no comparison between winning the semi-final this year because last year we were just so delighted to get past the heartache of almost five or six semi-finals in a row that we just couldn’t get over the line on. “This time when we won the semi-final, don’t get me wrong, we were delighted …

Last year’s camogie finalists favourites to tee up rematch

Eoin Brennan previews the senior camogie championship semi-finals taking place this Saturday Truagh-Clonlara v Kilmaley at Fr. McNamara Park Doora, Saturday 2pm (Kevin Walsh, Wolfe Tones) All eyes were on Truagh-Clonlara this year to see how they would respond to the heartbreak of a first senior final reverse. With the McMahon Cup almost in their grasp, the South East Clare side were remarkably reeled in by Scariff-Ogonnelloe at the death last November before being lowered in the replay a fortnight later. It could have had a detrimental effect but if anything, Truagh-Clonlara have come back stronger as they defiantly look to get over the line this time around. Off the back of their validation group decider victory over Inagh-Kilnamona, this could be a potential stumbling block as with expectations firmly on reaching another final, Truagh simply cannot overlook the challenge that’s in front of them. After all, in similar circumstances two years previously, Kilmaley almost brought down eventual champions Inagh-Kilnamona …

It’s throw-in time for the Clare camogie championships

Eoin Brennan previews this year’s Clare senior camogie championship, with the preliminary action taking place in two groups Group A – Kilkishen/Bodyke, Kilmaley, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Scariff-Ogonnelloe, St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield With three of last year’s semi-finalists pooled together in Group A, the developmental race to take on defending champions Inagh-Kilnamona should make for an intriguing wrestle for two semi-final places. Newmarket certainly won’t require any extra motivational edge after five successive final defeats while 2019 Munster champions Scariff-Ogonnelloe also have a point to prove after their meek semi-final exit at the hands of the Blues. Kilmaley actually came closest to lowering Inagh-Kilnamona when bringing them all the way to extra-time in their derby penultimate stage clash. That’s not to rule out Kilkishen/Bodyke or St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield, with the former coming agonisingly close to first reaching last year’s knock-out stages before also missing out on Senior B honours. However, when blending age profile with experience, Scariff-Ogonnelloe and the opening round winners between old …
