Samaritans teaming up with CDSL to emphasise the importance of looking after one’s mental fitness

Plans are currently underway for Samaritans volunteers to visit soccer clubs across the county to emphasise the importance of looking after one’s mental fitness. Clare District Soccer League (CDSL) approached Samaritans of Ennis and Clare to team up with them and deliver pitch side talks to the management teams and players from approximately 35 teams over the coming months. More than 1,000 players of all genders and abilities from age 16 up play in the league. Ennis Mental Health to cease operations as directors retire

AFTER more than three decades in existence the Ennis Mental Health Association has confirmed this week that it will fully cease operations at the end of the month. Maria Molloy, chair of the registered charity, explained that the board of directors believes the time is right to retire after many years of service locally. Like-minded local organisations and charities have been presented with the organisation’s remaining funds, she added. Ms Molloy expressed appreciation for the “generous support” the organisation has received over the years. And she reminded anyone with concerns about their mental health that support is available from Mental Health Ireland. She said, “Ennis Mental Health Association has operated in the town of Ennis and its environs for over 32 years. “Following much consideration, and after many years of commitment, the Board of Directors of Ennis Mental Health Association has decided that the time has now come for them to retire.” She continued, “We are extremely grateful for the …

Clare people asked to buddy up with Cycle Against Suicide for mental health

CLARE people are being asked to “share the load on the road” in an effort to bolster mental health in the community. Cycle Against Suicide is running a virtual cycle from this Saturday, April 24 until May 31 to highlight its “Community Buddy” programme that prioritises peer to peer support as a means to identify and help those who may be vulnerable. Cycle Against Suicide is working to prioritise mental health support by training mental health support ‘Buddies’ into communities across Ireland. Unable to undertake their usual fundraising cycle this year, the group is encouraging Clare people to get out on their own and cover the miles in their county to help raise money to train the buddies. The Cycle Against Suicide ‘Community Buddy’ programme trains and equips participants with practical, hands-on skills and knowledge they need to deliver local support to those in mental health distress. It costs €400 to train a Buddy, and the group is aiming to …
