THE Australian Ambassador to Ireland His Excellency Mr Gary Gray will visit Ennis this week, giving a talk on Tuesday, October 11 at the Old Ground Hotel. The event, organised by the Clare Labour Party, will be held at 7.30pm in the Ennis hotel. The special guest is an experienced Australian Labour Party member having served in the Bob Hawke and Paul Keating Governments, going on to become a minister. He also worked in the energy sector in Western Australia. A PROPOSAL to develop housing in Lahinch has been refused planning permission due to inadequate sewage treatment. The local authority stated the development would be “premature” due to a deficiency in sewerage facilities locally and “result in a risk of pollution and would be prejudicial to public health”. John Talty Construction Ltd had applied to Clare County Council for planning permission to construct a development of eight houses, comprising six detached and two semi-detached homes. The proposal included all associated site development works, wastewater pre-treatment and connections to public services at Cill Stuifin, School Road, Attycristora, Lahinch. However in refusing permission Clare County Council stated the proposal would be “premature by reference to the existing deficiency in the provision of sewerage facilities in Lahinch and the period within which this constraint may reasonably be expected to cease”. In addition to stepping down from the Labour Party’s Central Council, Paula McNamara, Magowna, Inch, resigned from the party last month. The daughter of former Ennis Hospital Development Committee chairman and Labour Party activist, the late Peadar McNamara, Paula also relinquished a number of administrative roles including PRO of the Ennis Labour Branch, county women’s’ officer, and co-treasure. Involved in numerous community projects from a young age, she hopes voters will judge her  ability to make a difference on the council on what she has achieved in the past. “I am young energetic person who likes to get things done. I hope my years of community involvement will give voters a glimpse of what I have and can achieve with their support,” she said.
