Winning Lotto ticket bought in Lissycasey

A family run store in Lissycasey has sold a winning Lotto ticket worth €4,041,306, the National Lottery has confirmed. This golden ticket was sold at Talty’s Mace Circle K in Lisseycasey, a village with a population of approximately 400 people. The winning Quick Pick ticket was bought in Talty’s Mace Circle K on the day of the draw (Saturday 9th May) and the National Lottery has confirmed that it is yet to hear from the lucky winner. Talty’s Mace Circle K is a well-known local business in the Lisseycasey area and has been run by the Talty family for almost half a century. Speaking on selling the golden ticket worth more than €4 million, Cathal Talty, owner of the store said: “We are absolutely over the moon to have sold the winning Lotto ticket. Lotto winning ticket bought in wider Ennis region

The National Lottery has revealed that the winning ticket for Saturday’s Lotto jackpot worth over €4,041,306 was sold in a town in the wider Ennis region. It was also confirmed that the winning ticketholder has yet to make contact so the National Lottery is still urging people in Clare to check their Lotto tickets very carefully to see if they are Ireland’s newest multi-millionaire. A National Lottery spokesperson said it will announce the name of the winning store tomorrow and said: “We can reveal that this winning ticket worth more than €4 million was sold in a town in the wider Ennis region and we will announce the lucky store which sold this ticket tomorrow. While there will no doubt be a lot of excitement for the entire community in this town, we are urging everybody to continue to heed the advice of Government and the HSE and maintain social distancing and not to make any unnecessary visits to the …

ŠKODA Ring of Clare Cycle postponed

IN what has been described as a blow to local tourism, organisers of the ŠKODA Ring of Clare Cycle have announced its 2020 event due to be hosted in Ennis has been cancelled due to Covid-19. The event is the largest mass participation sport tourism event held in the region, generating thousands of bednights, and is part of the country’s largest national cycling leisure series. The event is now rescheduled to take place on Saturday July 17, 2021.  The leisure cycling event attracts in excess of 4,000 participants and visitors to Clare annually representing a significant tourism event in the Clare events calendar.  Event organiser Mark O’Connell outlined it was a very difficult decision to take outlining how the event is one of the largest national mass participation events in the country.  He said, “We feel this is the wisest option at the moment with such a level of uncertainty around social distancing, venue capacities and how events need to react …

Bringing music home during Covid-19 with glór

ITS doors may be closed, but glór has been doing its bit to meet the challenges of Covid-19 by bringing people together – from the safety of their own homes. Director of the Ennis arts venue Orla Flanagan believes that shared experiences are an important way of bringing light into these uncertain times. With that in mind, the venue has launched glór sa Bhaile a new series of premier performances, bringing Clare’s finest artists direct from their homes to yours every Thursday evening at 8pm. Steo Wall and Jacinta Sheerin have already featured live from their home in Ennistymon with Katie Theasby set to feature this week. Tidy Towns still going strong in Ennis

THE national Tidy Towns competitions may be cancelled, but that hasn’t stopped the dedicated band of volunteers who have been keeping Ennis looking its best all year round. Just one of a number of initiatives underway locally has seen Ennis Tidy Towns join forces with the little ninjas of Ennis Coderdojo, asking them to develop Tidy Towns themed games and apps. The local Tidy Towns committee are looking forward to adjudicating what the youngsters come up with later this month. “If we don’t have actual Tidy Towns, we have virtual Tidy Towns,” smiles chairman of Ennis Tidy Towns Cormac McCarthy. He admits that there was disappointment in the community when it was announced this year’s contest would not be going ahead. The Ennis team, who have been hugely successful in the national contest, put in a “very strong submission” this year having worked right through the year. THE personalised, customer-focused shopping experience that has become synonymous with the town of Ennis is still continuing despite the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The pandemic has resulted in retail closures throughout the county, with businesses increasingly focusing their efforts online in a bid to meet these new unprecedented challenges. The last few weeks have highlighted the importance of having an online shopping presence, according to Gwen Culligan of the County Boutique in Ennis. While Patrick Burke’s is set to launch a personal shopping service utilising popular apps so people can purchase while still maintaining social distancing. Lockdown exhibition for Inis Artists

A GROUP of Clare artists have been brushing up on their digital skills, bringing their latest exhibition of artworks on-line. The Inis Artists as a group have been in existence for more than 20 years and are noted for their extensive touring art exhibitions. In a normal year they would be involved in up to 14 different group exhibitions all over the country. However, this is not a normal year and all of their art exhibition venues are closed due to Covid-19, except Skycourt in Shannon. In order to bring their artwork to the public, they have come up with the idea of holding a virtual art exhibition. Calling it their ‘Spring Lockdown Exhibition 2020’ it displays the new work of their artists. Laura Brennan documentary wins gold in New York

A DOCUMENTARY which followed the final months in the life of Laura Brennan has been given a prestigious international award. Laura Brennan: This is Me has won a Gold Award at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards. The award was presented in the Health / Media Information category. The film which documents Laura’s battle with cervical cancer at just 26 and her campaigning work to increase uptake of the HPV vaccine was made by RTÉ. Reacting to the win, producer Sinead Kennedy commented, “Laura would have been so proud and rightly so! She gave everything to ensure her voice was heard. Well, it’s being heard around the world Laura.” On behalf of the Brennan family, Laura’s brother Kevin expressed congratulations to the team behind the film. “Particular praise goes to Sally Roden (Executive Producer), Sinead Kennedy (Producer) and Kenny Mac Giola Phadraig (Director and Editor).
