THE Clare Association in Dublin (Muintir an Chláir) has a new chairperson. Tom Conway, a native of Ballyea, Inagh, will now lead the association for the coming year after his unanimous election at the association’s annual general meeting at the Clasac Comhaltas Ceoltoírí Centre, Clontarf. He succeeds Gerry O’ Reilly, who stepped down after a very successful term as the association’s chairman. The new chairman and long standing association officer, Liam O’Looney, also from Inagh, were among those who paid tribute to Mr O’ Reilly for his efforts and wonderful work on behalf of the association. He will continue to support the association as one of its officers. Mr O’Reilly thanked all members of the association for their endeavours and all who assisted the association in any way during his term in office. WELL-known local and international athlete, Willie Keane, Kilkee has been selected by the Clare Association in Dublin as its Clare Person of the Year 2016. He will be presented with his award at the association’s annual dinner dance in Dublin on January 23. Willie was to the forefront of Irish athletics for many years and between 1969 and 1980, he won numerous medals in track and field, cross country and on the road. During that time, he accumulated 56 All-Ireland medals. He also distinguished himself at international level and was always proud to wear the Irish singlet when representing the NACA at international events. As well as promoting athletics among the youth of West Clare as a member of St John’s Athletic Club, Willie is also a great GAA supporter and is president of the local St Senan’s GAA Club. THE new chairman of the Clare Association in Dublin (Muintir an Chláir) is Gerry O’Reilly. A native of Moyhill, Corofin, he has been an outstanding supporter of the association for many years. A committe member and PRO for the association in recent years, he succeeds Inagh native Liam O’Looney, who stepped down after over six years as chairman, having been first elected as interim chairman. Tributes to Mr O’Looney were led by the new chairman at the association’s annual general meeting in Wynn’s Hotel, Dublin. Mr OReilly told the meeting that Mr O’Looney is a long-serving, dedicated member of the association and made an outstanding contribution as chairman. He has played a big part in the success of the association and he was glad that he would be remaining on in the committee as PRO.
