New Motoring Media Organisation

The Motoring Media Association of Ireland (MMAI) has held its inaugural Annual General Meeting. Members gathered recently to unanimously ratify the formation of the new organisation, and to elect officers. The new Association has been established to represent professional motoring journalists across print and digital outlets in Ireland and is the result of a merger between the Irish Motoring Writers Association (IMWA) and the Association of Professional Motoring Press (APMP). At the first AGM of the new Association, the following appointments to officer roles were made: Chair: Joe Rayfus; Vice-Chair: Daragh Keany; Secretary: David Walshe; Treasurer: Martin McCarthy; Public Relations Officer: Caroline Kidd. The MMAI will be responsible for organising the annual Continental Tyres Irish Car of the Year and Continental Tyres Irish Van of the Year Awards, Ireland’s most prestigious and widely recognised motoring accolades for over 40 years. Jaguar Land Rover creating 150 jobs in Shannon

JAGUAR Land Rover has confirmed it will open a software engineering centre, creating 150 jobs in Shannon this year. In conjunction with Jaguar Land Rover’s engineering team in the UK, the Shannon facility will be working on electric and automated driving vehicles. It will develop new technologies to support electrification and self-driving features on future Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. Nick Rogers, Executive Director of Product Engineering for Jaguar Land Rover said: “Technical innovation lies at the heart of Jaguar Land Rover and our innovation is continuous. The new facility provides an exciting opportunity for us to pioneer future autonomous and electrification technologies.” While it is thought that Brexit is a major factor in securing the jobs for Shannon, he claimed that it is still committed to its UK operations.“The heart of our business will always be in the UK. Cheaper parking for Shannon Airport

  By Owen Ryan CAR parking charges at airports can be a real nuisance of a cost, particularly as the effects are only felt after returning, but Shannon is about to take steps to take some of the sting out of it for its customers. At the Shannon Chamber business breakfast in Dromoland on Wednesday morning Airport CEO Neil Pakey said he was planning to take a leaf out of the book of Ryanair Deputy Chief Executive Michael Cawley, who was addressing the attendance. “In line with Michael’s model we’re going to be introducing a Park for Less Car Park not far from the airport, which will be cheaper than the present car parking charges.” He said the airport are responding to what people have told them and they’re hoping for a good response once it opens. “It’s one reason someone might traipse across the country to get to another airport.
