The grant, in two lots, was announced at the beginning of 2013 towards the Clare organisation’s purchase and development plans for their new headquarters, Fr McNamara Park. During the summer concern emerged that the funding might be withdrawn as the eligibility of the project for funding was being assessed. “There is a procedure there whereby all projects are assessed, Clare camogie treasurer, Michael Maher told the Clare Champion at the time. Flannan’s double hopes blown away

By Seamus Hayes St Mary’s Charleville 1-5  St Flannan’s 0-4 A WEEK after making history by winning the Munster senior A colleges camogie championship title for the first time, St Flannan’s bid for another first died at windswept Newmarket-on-Fergus. With a number of the history-making senior side in their line up, St Flannan’s took on St Mary’s Charleville in the junior A decider at Fr Murphy Park but, despite a strong performance in very difficult weather conditions, they had to give best to the visitors The winners defended superbly when playing against the strong breeze in the second half and this proved decisive on the day when they failed to register a score in the second period. The Charleville outfit elected to play with the breeze in the opening half and for the opening twenty minutes there was nothing between the sides. With the teams level at 0-2 each with ten minutes remaining in the half, things looked good for …

With the underfoot conditions soft, St Flannan’s opened the scoring in the fourth minute through midfielder Aoife Keane. Laurel Hill’s Kate Mulqueen levelled matters when she converted a free just over a minute later. St Flannan’s won the resulting puckout and with the ball laid off to Amie Wiley, the Clarecastle youngster made no mistake as she split the posts to grab the lead for the Ennis school, a lead that was not relinquished. Injury time goals flatter Myshall

All Ireland Junior Camogie Club Final Myshall (Carlow) 3-9 Scariff/Ogonnelloe 0-8 WHILE Myshall were deserved winners the scoreline is deceiving, as they only led the East Clare women by 1-8 to 0-8 after a minute of injury time. It was still possible that the East Clare side could force a replay, but the Carlow girls had very late goals from the outstanding Ciara Quirke and Olivia Jordan, and Quirke then pointed to leave the gap at ten points. Overall they were the better side, but there is no way that Scariff/Ogonnelloe were ten points a poorer team. The Clare side had fine performances from the likes of Susan Vaughan and particularly Mairéad Scanlon, but didn’t quite have the same quality as the Carlow women, who also won the title in 2012. The most noticeable tactic of the day was Myshall’s mass withdrawal of players into defensive areas, particularly in the second half. At times there was just one attacker …
