Munster Senior Club Camogie Championship Semi-Final Scariff-Ogonnelloe 1-8 Inniscarra 0-8 SCARIFF-Ogonnelloe’s quest for Munster glory will see another day out after an unbelievable showing of heart commitment and determination in Cork this afternoon, reports Derek Dormer. This game was not for the purists as conditions dictated that it would be a war of attrition rather than a free flowing end-to-end spectacle. Inniscarra started the better of the two teams and with a huge wind and playing down a hill in the opening half, they raced into a four point lead with star forward Joanne Casey wreaking havoc. DESPITE late goals from Chloe Morey and Aoife Duggan, Clare suffered a 2-6 to 2-12 defeat to Galway as they suffered their second defeat in a row, reports Ivan Smyth. With Clare needing at least a draw to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive, they were overpowered by Galway in the third quarter as they were outscored by 2-3 to 0-1 after trailing by only a point at half time. Clare now face Westmeath in the final group game with both teams winless after their opening two matches. Ger O’Connell’s side struggled up front as they only hit two points in 27 minutes in the second half before the quickfire goals from Morey and Duggan. CLARE battled until the end but Kilkenny’s superior quality up front shone through as they secured the spoils in Sixmilebridge writes Ivan Smyth. A battling Clare side fell to a 0-16 to 0-22 defeat against Kilkenny as the reigning All-Ireland and league champions held on for a deserved win. Clare certainly gave as good as they got throughout and can look back on some spurned goal chances in the second half going forward . Chloe Morey saw a 20m free blocked on the line early in the second half while corner forward Eimear Kelly was thwarted by Kilkenny goalkeeper Emma Kavanagh. Morey was also fouled going through on goal late in the game while Bridin Dinan saw Kavanagh save her goal-bound effort in the final play of the game. Munster Senior Camogie Championship Preliminary Round Limerick 2-11 Clare 1-09 THE gap had considerably narrowed, but the result remained the same as the Shannonside honours once more went to Limerick in Clarina on Saturday afternoon, reports Eoin Brennan. A six point margin definitely flattered a vanquished Clare in a one-sided National League contest four weeks earlier in Fr McNamara Park. However, this time, it was Limerick who found it difficult to justify a five point win as this was a much more evenly-matched derby throughout. A succession of Caoimhe Costelloe placed balls allied to a sucker-punch goal right before the opening water break provided a cushion that the home side were able to cling to for the remainder. In contrast, Clare started confidently but after Becky Foley’s opportunist goal in the third minute, five subsequent goal chances were passed up including a final quarter penalty that was sent wide. National Camogie League Division 3 Round 3 Carlow v Clare at Netwatch Training Centre Fenagh, Saturday 2pm Clare’s aim is simple when embarking on the five hour round trip to Fenagh on Saturday. There’s no need for calculators as it’s do-or-die for the visitors that will only be sated by a victory in order to advance to the Division 3 Semi-Finals. Having consistently reached that lofty stage since taking over four years ago, joint-managers Ann-Marie McGann and Tim McGrath are arguably facing their toughest test to maintain that record against intermediate side Carlow. Of course, Carlow last overcame Clare in the 2014 All-Ireland Junior Championship Semi-Final on their way to national glory. It would provide the catalyst to subsequently soar to an All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship and National League Division 3 double twelve months later, but any further momentum hasn’t materialised as the Leinster side were relegated back to the third league tier for 2020. National Camogie League Division 1 Round 2 Limerick 2-14 Clare 1-11 A NERVY relegation series is Clare’s lot after disappointingly falling to neighbours Limerick in their concluding group stage outing in Fr.McNamara Park on Saturday afternoon, reports Eoin Brennan. Sorely second best for the opening three-quarters of the tie, the Banner never reached the encouraging heights of their opening performance against Galway seven days previously. 0-4 to 0-3 in favour of the visitors by the first water break, a blistering second quarter ensured that Limerick put themselves firmly in the driving seat as they outscored their hosts by 2-6 to 0-4, with Caoimhe Costelloe firing both goals including a 28th minute penalty to carve out a 2-10 to 0-07 interval cushion. With the conditions to come, Clare’s expected fightback never really materialised as five goal chances of varying degrees of difficulty went abegging. TWO Scariff-Ogonnelloe players, Susan Vaughan and Mairéad Scanlan, have been selected on the 2019/2020 AIB All-Ireland Senior Club Championship Team of the Year. Scanlan was also selected as Munster player of the year. The team also features six players from All-Ireland champions Sarsfields from Galway, six players from Ulster Champions and All-Ireland Runners-Up Slaughtneil, along with one from St. Vincents of Dublin. One player from each province, were named as Provincial Players of the Year. Aoife Ní Chaiside of All-Ireland finalists Slaughtneil, Niamh Hetherton of Leinster and St. Vincents, Mairéad Scanlan from Munster champions Scariff-Ogonelloe and Siobhán McGrath of Connacht and Galway’s Sarsfields. Clare 0-8 Limerick 0-8 The first of three big Shannonside GAA derby games this weekend ended in the spoils being shared prompting many to ask if this result will be repeated at Cusack Park tomorrow when the senior and minor hurlers from both counties clash in crucial championship games. O’Garney park in Sixmilebridge hosted the clash of Clare and Limerick in this All-Ireland senior camogie championship tie this afternoon and at the end of sixty minutes play the honours were shared and both remain in the hunt for a place in the play off stage of the championship.
