Flood of appointments as Clare salons ride post-lockdown wave

AN Ennis hair and beauty salon expects to see 200 people in its first week back trading following a relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions across the country. Monday saw the return of hairdressers and other personal services, alongside other measures including the phased reopening of retail and the resumption of religious services in churches. Bridget Haren Hair and Beauty Salon on Woodquay opened at 9.30am on Monday to welcome its first clients in months, with staff on site since 8am busily preparing to ensure everything was in place. Perspex screens, mask wearing and sanitiser is the new normal when it comes to getting a hair-cut. cancer support centre zooms in to help patients

ANXIETY among cancer patients has understandably increased during the Covid-19 restrictions, according to a local counsellor. Bridget Haren has revealed that cancer patients are very fearful of picking up the virus if they get any non-Covid-19 illness but still require hospitalisation. Another fear experienced by cancer patients is that their regular check-up or health appointment may be cancelled due to the restrictions. For the last seven years, Ms Haren has provided face-to-face counselling for cancer patients at the . the Sláinte An Chláir Centre in Kilnamona. Following the closure of the centre due to the national restrictions, she is now providing remote meditation and mindfulness classes using Zoom from her own home near Miltown Malbay for up to 20 patients for an hour on Tuesday and Thursdays. The first 30 minutes of the meditation class on Thursdays is devoted to discussion and medication questions for oncology nurse, Anne Murphy from Tulla, who also takes part in the Zoom class. ENNIS hair stylist Bridget Haren proved that she’s a cut above the rest by coming home from the World Hairdressing Championships in Malaysia with the gold medal in the ‘progressive cut and colour’ section of the competition. But there was no resting on her laurels for the owner of Altamoda Hair on Woodquay in Ennis. When she returned from Kuala Lumpur, it was straight back to work. “I arrived back in Ireland on Tuesday night and I worked 12 hours on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday,” Bridget said. Her world championship-winning progressive cut and colour was fashioned on a mannequin and following days of preparation, she had 30 minutes to complete the cut. “I rehearsed what I was going to do in five easy steps for myself, so when I went on to the floor, I just had to keep my head and make sure that I didn’t make any mistakes. With over 1,300 world class competitors from 50 countries local hairstylist Bridget Haren from Altamoda Hair in Ennis triumphed with a fourth placement with her ladies fashion look and as part of a four team in the ladies progressive cut and colour took the bronze third place world medal overall in the team event.
