Gardai investigate spate of break-ins

GARDAI are urging people to minimise the degree of opportunity for criminals following a spate of break-ins around the county during the past week. Last Friday, between 10am and 2pm, two houses in Madden’s Terrace in Clarecastle were broken into. One house was ransacked in an effort to obtain property and some items of jewellery were stolen from the other house. Thieves made off with a Phillips flatscreen TV following a break-in to a house on Golf Links Road in Ennis while in Moveen Park, Kilkee a mobile home was broken into when the front door was forced open. A brown leather purse containing bank cards and a sum of money was stolen. Gardai are also investigating thefts in Broadford. Aluminium piping was stolen from a yards in Ballyquin while, on a different date, three car batteries were also stolen from a yard in Ballyquin. ‘Master key’ attempted break-ins

GARDAÍ in West Clare are investigating reports of attempted break-ins by a person, who it is claimed was attempting entry using a supposed master key. The gardaí are reacting to a matter raised by Councillor Oliver Garry at Monday’s meeting of the JPC, where he said he had received calls from members of the public in Kildysart, who had told him “a person was going around with a bunch of keys trying specific doors of houses”. He said on receiving a call about it, he phoned gardaí in Kilrush. He asked if the gardaí were aware of certain doors that could be accessed by using a “master key”. “He was only trying certain doors. I don’t know the specifics of the particular one,” he said. Superintendents Derek Smart and Seamus Nolan were not aware of this specific incident but said they would make enquiries.
