Council urged to weed out roundabout problem

EFFORTS being made by a group of volunteers to maintain the Ballymaley roundabout are in the weeds, with the local authority been urged to step in and help. Mayor of Ennis Councillor Ann Norton urged at a meeting of the Ennis Municipal District that the council look after the maintenance and grass cutting at the roundabout following representations from a number of people. Tommy Scott, Senior Executive Technician, responded, “The top of the roundabout is maintained as a Biodiversity meadow. The crop will now be cut and removed. Grass cutting has finished for the season and will recommence in April. “The grass cutting on the Ballymaley roundabout is carried out in a similar manner to the roundabouts on the N85 where the grass is permitted to grow and become a wild flower meadow in line with good biodiversity practices. This is part of the Tidy Town’s biodiversity programme.” Councillor Norton thanked Mr Scott for the response, stating that she appreciates …

HSE suspends walk-in Covid-19 testing but continues booking system

THE HSE has suspended walk-in testing for Clare people presenting with Covid-19 symptoms due to a dramatic surge in demand. More than 5,900 tests were completed in Ennis in the last two weeks of October, and this has continued into this week with a further 1,500 tests conducted between Monday and Wednesday. This trend is reflected throughout the Mid West Region, where more than 43,000 tests were conducted last month. The huge increase in demand means that walk-in testing cannot be accommodated at this time, and tests are only available by booking in advance. In fact, the HSE Mid West Community Healthcare, which operates Covid-19 Test Centres across the region, including in Ennis, is now conducting more tests than at any other stage since the onset of the pandemic. The Ennis Covid-19 Test Centre is located at Block 1 Ballymaley Business Park, Ennis. People attending Test Centres will be required to verify their pre-booked appointments upon arrival, and it …

THE Mid-West Health Service Executive has confirmed a new Covid-19 testing centre will open on the outskirts of Ennis on November 16. This announcement comes in the wake of increasing concern about the number of people from West Clare who have been referred for Covid-19 testing in Limerick and North Tipperary in recent weeks due to capacity issues. A new Covid-19 testing centre will open in the Ballymaley Business Park, Gort Road, Ennis, on November 16. This will replace the existing test centre, which was provided at Clare GAA’s headquarters in Cusack Park. Deputy Violet-Anne Wynne has expressed concern about official statistics confirming more than 600 planned Covid-19 tests were marked as no-shows across the Mid-West from October 19th to 25th. “I am deeply concerned about the continued trend of no-shows for Covid-19 tests across Clare, Limerick and Tipperary in recent days. “The HSE have said that up to late last week there has been around 600 missed appointments for …
