Proceeds from art exhibition to benefit cancer charity

PROCEEDS of an art exhibition by a Lough Derg artist, which opens next Sunday, will be donated to a cancer charity. “Flora and Fauna” by Tipperary visual artist Trish Taylor Thompson will be showcased in the Art D’ Gallery, Ballyfinn House, Borrisokane on Sunday, August 8 from 2 to 5pm, and runs until Sunday August 22. This is the former Lyric Fm’s first exhibition since the Covid-19 pandemic featuring work such as limited edition prints of “Covid Bee Hug” oil on canvas created during the lockdowns. The Killaloe Music Festival chairperson has decided to donate 10% of the net profit from this exhibition to Breast Cancer Ireland. Originally from Dublin and now living in Loughtea overlooking Lough Derg, Ms Taylor-Thompson paints in oils, acrylics and glass inks creating unique images that exude life, energy and colour. Clare art project a shore fire success by the lake

Artist Melissa Ryan talks to Dan Danaher about a unique art exhibition showcasing professional and emerging artists near the shores of Lough Derg SEVEN emerging artists from the Killaloe Ballina area are amongst 120 participants who have united to create a unique free outdoor community art exhibition near the shores of Lough Derg. Carol O’Donoghue, Lori Foley, Teresa Kearns, Kathleen Valette, Kathleen Sheehan, Donna Lawlor and Pauline Quigley, were supported by the local Family Resource Centre during an innovative community project and competition. One of the professional artists is Kerry Acheson, who lives in Killaloe, and is also an art teacher. ‘At One with Nature’, which opens this Friday and runs for one month, showcases 50 original works, with more than 120 artists using Malaysian pine boards, 150 cm by 150 cm hand painted in acrylics, along the scenic 2.2 kilometres Pollagh trail beside the River Shannon in Birdhill village. Stunning Scattery paintings go on exhibition

ENNIS Friary has an added attraction for both tourists and locals this summer – a temporary art exhibition featuring a series of stunning original paintings of Scattery Island. The paintings  are the work of Senan O’Brien a talented Dublin artist with very strong Clare roots. The exhibition features six paintings depicting different views of Scattery Island, it’s landscape, buildings and Saint Senan’s monastery. The artist was born in 1964 in Dublin, the youngest son of Denis O’Brien, himself a renowned artist, and Lillian O’Brien (nee Beehan) from Kilrush. He was named Senan after a good friend of his parents Fr. Senan Hederman O.F.M. a Franciscan from Ennis, who, by coincidence, is buried at Ennis Friary where the exhibition is taking place. O’Brien’s skills as an artist have been widely recognised and his artwork is highly sought after. He has been commissioned to paint works for former president Mary McAleese and A.I.B. Bank.
