AN ARNACRUSHA-based specialist Covid-19 specialist decontamination and sanitisation company are planning to expand its operations over the coming weeks to cope with growing demand for their services. While a lot of companies are either closed or scaling back on operations during the Covid-19 health pandemic, Sterile Matters are on track to take on additional staff subject to training and access to more personal protective equipment (PPE). Having trained and secured certification for ten employees last February, the company was set up in March. Their employees wear full PPE including a protective face mask with respirators at the side, gown and gloves to ensure that there is no exposure to the decontaminant that is being used. Gardaí investigating the murder of Aidan Kelly on May 10, 2006 at Blackwater, Ardnacrusha,  have arrested a man in his late 30s. He was arrested this morning (Tuesday) and is currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007. Gardaí investigating this incident are appealing to anyone who has information, no matter how insignificant they may think it is, to contact Henry Street Garda Station on (061) 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

MAYORSTONE Gardai in Limerick are investigating following the discovery of a woman’s body in Ardnacrusha on Friday. The woman was discovered close to a stream, near Ardnacrusha Power Station. The  deceased woman is believed to have been in her 60s. Meanwhile a teenager, who was surfing in Spanish Point has been hospitalised, following an accident on Friday evening.The teenager is being treated at University Hospital Limerick.  

A Co Clare woman was sitting on a winning €500,000 EuroMillions plus ticket for a month before she realised there was a chance she could be a winner. It was only through a casual conversation at home that she learned the winning ticket was purchased at Barry’s Mace Store in Ardnacrusha, where she played EuroMillions on October 6 last. The winner, who arrived at National Lottery at the weekend, with her large family to collect her cheque, revealed she is not a regular player of Lottery games. “I was in the car on October 6 when I heard that night’s EuroMillions jackpot was €190m so I pulled into the nearest shop to buy a ticket,” she said. “I heard the following day that the jackpot was won in Spain, so I didn’t even bother checking the results.   A South-East Clare shop owner got his holidays off to the perfect start after selling the winning €500,000 EuroMillions Plus ticket in Sunday night’s bumper €190 million draw. Lance O’Neill, owner of Barrys Mace in Blackwater, Ardnacrusha, had just started a family holiday near Barcelona in Spain when he learned one of his customers is a half a million Euros richer. Ironically the jackpot winning ticket from last night’s mega €190 million EuroMillions Jackpot was actually sold in Spain. “How ironic is that. I can confirm that I did not buy a EuroMillions ticket here so I am not the Spanish jackpot winner,” laughed Lance. Lance has owned his shop in the small South-East Clare community for 13 years. Three families with a passion for trad will go head-to-head for the title of Ireland’s Traddest Family this Saturday night live on the Ray Darcy Show on RTÉ One. The Doohan family from Lissycasey and the Ó’Dálaigh family from Ardnacrusha will compete in a showdown for the title of Ireland’s Traddest Family this Saturday night live on the Ray Darcy Show on RTÉ One along with the Durcan Family from Co. Meath. The Doohin Family are three generations that play music, sing and dance together. Included in the family are mother Margaret, her daughters Christina, Claire, Carmel, Caroline and Clodagh, her sons Derek and Dermot, and her grandson Stephen, all of whom have All Ireland titles in solo competitions, duets, trios, céile bands and grúpa ceoils. The Ardnacrusha headrace and tailrace canal in South East Clare are among a list of places that have been named as possible dangerous swimming locations. With the recent improved weather and summer approaching, the ESB has issued a reminder to the general public of the dangers and potential serious consequences of swimming in any ESB reservoir. This is due to the risk of uneven ground, deep waters, changing water levels and fast-flowing waters. In additin to Ardnacrusha, these waters include the reservoirs at Poulaphoca and Golden Falls in Wicklow, Leixlip in Kildare, Inniscarra and Carrigadrohid in Cork, and Assaroe and Lough NaCung in County Donegal.

A search was undertaken on a canal near the ESB power station at Ardnacrusha this evening (Tuesday) following the sighting of what was believed to be a body part in the water. A motorist reported seeing “an arm” sticking out of the water, while passing over a bridge at around 4.30pm. Three units of the Limerick City and County Fire Service responded, along with the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, and members of the Killaloe-based coastguard service and the Limerick Marine Rescue Service. The search continued until darkness.
